I heard it too and cringed. She did say sorry when it was pointed out

NormaStanleyFletcher · 04/04/2012 19:30

Talking about New film on Sarah Palin

TiggyD · 04/04/2012 19:30

I'd need a link to hear that myself.

ariadne1 · 04/04/2012 19:32

It sounds as though she has already apologised then.

PrisonerOfWaugh · 04/04/2012 19:32

Ha, just logged on to see if anyone had started a thread. My face was like Shock. She said it twice. I practically hear could hear the flapping behind the scenes in the studio. Mark Lawson had to correct her to get a mumbled apology.

As an aside, does she always sound half cut when she mumbles talks?

takingiteasy · 04/04/2012 19:32

WTF?

I've not heard it though, would have to before commenting further but jeepers, it's certainly horrible to hear that word.

AwkwardMaryHadAnEasterLamb · 04/04/2012 19:34

How did Mark Lawson correct her then? They'll edit it all out of the listen again thingy....silly old cow. She's NO excuse at all. Not in her position.

PrisonerOfWaugh · 04/04/2012 19:36

After her monologue, he said something like 'the accepted term is child with Down's Syndrome" and she mumbled something in return that might have been an apology.

takingiteasy · 04/04/2012 19:37

She did say sorry when it was pointed out

Sad that it had to 'pointed out' :(

mercibucket · 04/04/2012 19:37

So has she already apologised? Can't say I'm one for this new trend for neverending apologies for offending people but if she didn't really apologise first time, then I can see why you'd want to hear another, proper apology

gordyslovesheep · 04/04/2012 19:38

yes she should ...and did

blackeyedsusan · 04/04/2012 19:39

I did fish expressions in the kitchen thinking I misheard and then Mark Lawson pointed it out to her. I did not hear what she mumbled though.

listen again will not be available until after 7.45

merci if people in the public eye were not pulled up sharply when they use offensive terms then we would be living in 1960 again when it was fine to use the N word and other awful things.

Quite honestly, i've always found her unpleasant. What an awful, ignorant statement.

hazeyjane · 04/04/2012 20:02

I can't believe that anyone thinks it is an ok thing to say.

(By the way, Zukiecat, I think referring to a 'Down's Syndrome child', rather than a 'child with Down's Syndrome' is not really an acceptable as it puts the syndrome before the person, IYSWIM!)

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 04/04/2012 20:02

ah but you see zukiecat, saying 'down's syndrome child' is also not on, because they are children first and foremost, not their disability. clearly, however, you mean no offence, and i'd warrant nor did Clare Short, and she has already apologised.
fair enough to come on here and comment on her using such an archaic term (i'm surprised, haven't heard that since the 70s) but to demand another apology if she has apologised already?

NormaStanleyFletcher · 04/04/2012 20:17

Mark Lawson pointed out that the term that Sarah Palin and others prefer is downs syndrome. She then apologised and the bloke who was on with her started talking about 'downs syndrome children', rather than children with...

But Clive Anderson is on now talking about law so all is right in the world

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 04/04/2012 20:28

this stuff IS incredibly important, don't get me wrong. i'm just of the opinion that if someone says sorry at the time, then it's done with.

hazeyjane · 04/04/2012 20:37

I guess it is a good opportunity to educate people though

Pallindrome · 04/04/2012 20:47

I heard this while driving and was also doing fish impressions at her awful turn of phrase. Fwiw I don't really think she apologised just mumbled, oh sorry (or words to that effect) when she was pulled up on it.

I also think she sounded pissed all the way through!!
