To not understand hide 'n' squeak eggs

DD has Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak eggs
They have great reviews and were recommended by loads of our friends, but I just don't get it. Why are they so popular?
DD loves driving me nuts making me open the box for her so she can close it again & give it back to me to open but the chicks don't even really squeak. What's it all about?

Top of thread.

I don't get them either. At my local playgroup they are popular but mainly for throwing. Hmm Never seen any child sit down and play with them.

OriginalJamie · 04/04/2012 18:25

Bertie - no, perfect age

latrucha - isn't the prevailing tone of a playgroup to throw things? not much scope for quiet contemplation ..... Grin

latrucha · 04/04/2012 18:28

Yes but no but ... nothing else gets thrown (except by my DS, who throws trains when others try to touch them Blush)

lazylula · 04/04/2012 18:29

My 6 and 3 year old still love them. Glad I am not the only one to keep losing bits. I feel proud of myself when I manage to locate the full set!

BlackOutTheSun · 04/04/2012 18:31

they are great Grin

dd has had them since she was 6 months, she has broken the box by sitting in it

MaureenMLove · 04/04/2012 18:31

The best toy ever! DD had them for her first Easter. She's 16 now! I loved them so much, I bought them for every niece, nephew, god child and friends kids, for their first Easter pressie too!

Good to see them again.

Didn't they start selling an electronic version at one time? - I'm sure a friends with younger DCs had them. It made me sad because it wasn't the same at all

We got them for DD1 10 years ago and DD2 plays with them now.

They both love/d them.

They do 'peep' if you press them down, well ours do anyway.

You can blow through them to get a whistle nose too.

reluctantironer · 04/04/2012 18:39

my boys (now 18 and 15 years!) both really loved "eggs is eggs" as they called them - ours are in a blue box and are being kept for future generations!

You can bash them (against each other, or on the floor), you can chew them, you can put them in the box, you can take them out of the box, you can put them back in the box again, you can tip them all out of the box in one go...what's not to love?!

We were given a load of second hand toys when DS was a baby and these were by far his favourites. I often give them as presents. DS loved them from 6-18months. He'd probably play with them now (he's 4) if I could remember where they were in the loft.

I like that they have a nice, gentle squeak too. Not too irritating! Unless Little Singing Bastard Alfie That got donated to the charity shop pretty quickly...

Maureen - I almost guessed what that was before I clicked on it

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/04/2012 19:25

Best £5 we ever spent too. Babies loved them, toddlers loved them, my five year old still plays with them if he finds them. We've kept them in case of visiting babies.
