I am overweight and I've heard their really coming down on overweight people now.
I don't mind being told the facts of course etc and I know it will be an issue.,but I'm told its essentially a witchhunt now.
I'm just terrified about my appointment in a few days.

can anyone tell me what theres was like?

just to ease my nerves?

AIBU to be scared.

My midwife was lovely just mentioned not to put on too much weight and told me i would need a gestational diabetes test (BMI 30) but that was it they have always been lovely.

WibblyBibble · 04/04/2012 18:18

How overweight are you? I was slightly overweight at start of second pregnancy and they didn't even mention it- I think they only bother if you are actually into the obese category, if your BMI is less than maybe 27 (not sure exactly what, mine was about 26) then they really don't care at all.

Hoebag · 04/04/2012 21:10

I'D be at least 30

I think it depends on the area - i am overweight too - size 16-18 before pregnancy and whilst yes i have had the GTT (i would have asked for a GTT anyway as my dad has diabetes) and i have been referred to a consultant (i would have been referred anyway as i have heart problems unrelated to my weight) and i've had a growth scan at 32 weeks (i just saw it as an extra chance to see the little one) I was happy to have these extra checks anyway, as long as people were nice about it and not rude!
Most of my experiences were really good! Apart from one midwife at the hospital everyone was absolutely lovely. (and i must have seen about 5-6 midwives and 3 consultants)

I got weighed yesterday , bmi much bigger than I expected Sad not saying on here though.
I'm not eating bread now at all just to help keep my weight down.
the midwives were nice enough but you still feel Blush

So, it wasn't as bad as you thought? Good. Just eat healthily, no need to cut out foods, just eat well. When the baby starts weaning you will want to put only good, healthy food in their mouth. Why not just think of it that way? Don't give yourself a hard time.

After the birth, I can recommend BFing. DD just sucked the fat out of me. I know it doesn't work that way for everyone but I found it did for me. As soon as she started solids I had to stop eating butter with every meal stick to a healthy eating plan.

Aw try not to worry hoebag you probably won't be weighed again. If your bmi is over 30 in our pct they automatically put something along the lines of 'restricted view due to raised maternal bmi'. Mine is just over 30 and I really worried when I saw that so asked the sonographer if she really couldn't see that well and she said she could see everything perfectly but it is automatically printed out. She even hand wrote 'clear views obtained' on the print out for my notes. Along with the GD test you may also bw offered 2 extra growth scans at around 28 and 34 weeks for them to estimate babies size. Extra scans can only be a good thing Smile You may also have to go and see a consultant and have an anaesthetic review.

Congratulations and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. If it makes you feel any better my BMI at the start of pregnancy was 57. I had a problem free pregnancy. My blood pressure went down during the pregnancy, I never got diabetes or pre-eclampsia, had to have an EMCS as my waters went and labour didn't start. I didn't gain any weight during the pregnancy and DD is now 3 months old and I'm 3 stone lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. They put me on a low dose of soluble aspirin about halfway through to keep my blood pressure low (coincidentally it's the only time it went up when I started taking it but I still took it and it went down again) and they were going to put me on a vit D supplement but my daily pregnacare vitamin had enough in it. Oh and I got extra scans at 24, 28 and 34 weeks to check growth. DD was born 8lb 12.5oz and beautiful x

Mines 40 + Blush
that shocked I knew I had gained weight but it is by far the heaviest I have been so I was like OMG.

So in some ways its good.
