And that's size of normal fish tanks

ilikecandyandrunning · 06/04/2012 19:53

How can they do this? Such a cruel attitude

CatPussWithACrownOfThorns · 06/04/2012 21:06

Human beings are horrible!

ThatVikRinA22 · 06/04/2012 21:11

well done halfpastwine ill email PETA now.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 21:13

This is a horrible practice.

But it is also pretty disgusting to refer to 'these Asian countries' (generalize, much?) or to the 'psyche of the Chinese'.

I can't interpret these comments as anything other than racism and have reported.

Gemtubbs · 06/04/2012 21:19

I couldn't click the link today, but that's so disgusting. : (

Hoebag · 06/04/2012 21:56

But it is also pretty disgusting to refer to 'these Asian countries' (generalize, much?) or to the 'psyche of the Chinese'.

Its wrong to generalise that every chinese/asian person is involved in animnal cruelty.
However you can't pretend that eastern countries are not exactly progressive in terms of animal rights that not racism its fact.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 21:59

'Eastern countries'?

East of where, exactly?

Yes, no shit Sherlock, it's wrong to generalize ... so why keep doing it?

Hoebag · 06/04/2012 22:04

I'm not ,

I said I'm not saying every person in these countries are cruel to animals and ever would be, no-one would.
But its a known fact some parts of the world have very poor animal welfare rights. Thats a large part of the whole 'eat british meat thing'
also watch the cove its an eye opener.
Stating fact is not racism, you can't live in a constant 'Ooh you can't say that'.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 22:08

'Eastern countries' is a generalization. Isn't it? Do you want to say which countries you mean, that have poor animal welfare rights? No, you prefer to lump them all together as 'Eastern countries' (which is a pretty meaningless description).

I haven't picked up on people stating that China has poor human rights and animal rights. I don't think that is racist.

Can you really not see the difference?

Bohica · 06/04/2012 22:09

Thw whole website is a real eye opener "I have bought one and will hang it in my office, it's good luck" - not for the turtle!!

Hoebag · 06/04/2012 22:10

Well I said that in a few posts up but apparently thats too racist for some people.
But Japan , and Eastern Europe has serious issues too.

Jinsei · 06/04/2012 22:23

Yeah, Japan & Eastern Europe are so similar. Hmm

Hoebag · 06/04/2012 22:24

Oh I give up, bangs head against wall

CarefullyAirbrushedPotato · 06/04/2012 22:26

people are so fucking fuck

MessyTerrier · 06/04/2012 22:29

Revolting.

There are certain parts of the world where things like this are allowed to happen and certain parts where they are not. FACT.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 22:32

I don't think anyone's denying that these things happen in certain parts of the world, messy. Nor has anyone suggested it's anything other than abusive and disgusting.

HTH

Jinsei · 06/04/2012 22:36

doom, I think some people are just missing the point. FWIW, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was a bit Hmm about "these Asian countries". I mentioned it earlier in the thread but nobody else seemed bothered by it.

It's perfectly possible to be opposed to animal cruelty while simultaneously being opposed to sweeping generalisations.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 22:44

Amen to that, jinsei.

I am really, truly disgusted by reading about this practice.

MessyTerrier · 06/04/2012 22:46

The point being...?

Jinsei · 06/04/2012 22:47

The point being that we can discuss this cruel practice without making offensive generalisations about "these Asian countries".

MessyTerrier · 06/04/2012 22:51

China has notoriously poor standards of animal rights. Most people could guess in one where that item would be available for purchase.

That's neither racist or offensive, it's just a fact.

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 22:51

Well, and another point being that this thread, instead of raising awareness of a horrible instance of animal cruelty, has instead been taken over by racist comments, which takes focus away from the animals' suffering. Sad

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 06/04/2012 22:53

messy, are you reading what we're saying? No-one has denied China has poor standards of human rights. There is no need for you to pretend anyone has said it.

MessyTerrier · 06/04/2012 23:01

Fair enough. Sorry. Have just read through ALL posts. Blush
