to put hair clips in ds2 1.4 hair?

Ds2 has baby hair and I am trying to grow it long enough so it will keep behind his ears. However it is not quite long enough to do this yet but long enough to be flopping down in his eyes. Dp wants him to get a hair cut, but (a) i dont want ds to have a fringe and (b) if i cut it then it will never grow long enough to tuck behind his ears. At the moment I have used my nieces pink snap clips to keep his hair in place. Dp is not impressed. Is this really unreasonable. I will try and get black ones but dp still wont be happy. Any body got any other suggestions to keep ds hair out of his face?

Facebook, ds doesnt care if his hair is long or short, hasn't bothered him in the slightest, even having hair in his eyes. It difficult to explain but its like his hair from the crown at the back of his head all grows forward. The hair at the front of his head is not as long as the hair at the back, and its the hair half way between his fore head and crown that is so long its now in his eyes. I dont want to cut it because going by experience of ds1, it was a hideous mess short and the best thing to do is to wait it out till it is long and thick enough to be tucked behind his lugs. Its what to do in the meantime as I dont like it in his eyes.

not hair gel

you need something like hair putty

obv not clips

are you one of them yummy mummies OP?

I don't think a hair clip is very safe, as others have mentioned on here. I know you said you watch him all the time but I really think that even if you are pushing him in a buggy you can watch him.

Try something like hair gum. It's stronger than hair gel and you don't get that "slicked back Hitler look". Look for an organic one too.

My DS has got long hair aged 2.7. Like yours he really wasn't bothered if it got in his eyes but I did cut a fringe in the end. I cut it too thick because there seemed to be a lot of hair at the front similar to what you are saying. He has finally had his first proper cut and looks gorgeous. So maybe a hairdresser could sort a light fringe for you? You don't have to cut it all over. Or the alice band idea might work. I tie DS's back now for swimming or if it's very hot.

I think long haired little boys look lovely.

DS is 19 months and loves his sisters hair bands/clips etc...
he particularly loves a pale pink ballerina soft hair band,
he has VERY curly long hair that's always getting in his face,so he wears this quite a lot,
it's great,he can't eat it,its soft so it doesn't hurt him at all,and I just slip it over his forehead.
easy.

Go on,judge me...I'll put up a picture and you'll melt Grin

FriggFRIGG · 03/04/2012 20:35

Oh,and I would cut a fringe, but I did that with DD,it doesn't work very well with curly hair...goes sort of weirdy...

LesAnimaux · 03/04/2012 20:40

According to this thread no child under 36 moths should have a bobble or clip in their hair.

Now I understand why some people give their DC such awful fringes. (Where is the enlighted smiley?)

Apart from the fact hair clips on a baby that age are dangerous my haridresser would tell you it's in his best interests to get it cut.

If you let it grow naturally at this age is will grow all straggley and whispy. It needs trimming to help it grow stronger and thicken up a bit. I was sceptical when she first suggested cutting DS2's hair when he was 9 months. He's mixed race and showing signs of being curly which I wanted to encourage. She trimmed it and it did thinken loads and started with proper curls.

Get it cut!!!

AgentZigzag · 03/04/2012 21:02

I find DD2 having curly hair makes it easier to cut Frigg, you can't see it looks like I've done it with a knife and fork when it springs back up Grin

FriggFRIGG · 03/04/2012 21:13

YY,easier to cut all over but fringe doesn't work, curls up randomly, doesn't sit right at all.

AgentZigzag · 03/04/2012 21:15

I was just talking about her fringe Grin

Maybe I'm deluding myself and it looks a right state in reality Grin

My DS used to go to the barbers with his dad when he was tiny, to get used to it.
He had his first hair cut when he was 14 months old.

Personally, and this is one instance when I don't give a toss about anyone elses opinion.
I hate long hair on boys. Even worse I hate ponytails/clips /any other such crap in boys hair.

Just take him to the barbers, they will advice you.

OP my ds has hair like yours, seems to grow from the back and not lie like a normal man hair cut iyswim!

I just left it, combing it to where i wanted it each morning and after baths and have trained it, hes nearly 5 now and has long hair, i love it and so does he!

seashore · 03/04/2012 23:50

3 words - Basic common sense

FriggFRIGG · 03/04/2012 23:54

DS has the same sort of hair, all comes from the back,I put in a side parting after baths etc,I only use the Alice band when hes in the garden or having a really bad hair day! Grin
