Ok, so this morning I put the oven racks in the sink to soak, had just started to scrub them and my darling dh had stuck a load of bleach in with them before he went to work without telling me. As I write this my hands are now turning white and stinging... grrr the mans obsessed with bleach if he got his way he would use it on everything, personally I don't really like the stuff and will only use it when I really need to.
Anyones else have an oh that has strange cleaning habits?
(Disclaimer- I know using bleach isn't weird, but he even wants to use it to clean plates Confused)

Clean is different to bleached. Bleached means you just can't see it. Clean means it isn't there

Surely that assumes that you're just throwing bleach at something and expecting clean?

To me cleaning involved elbow grease and that is what removes dirt and makes something clean-if you ue bleach combined with good old elbow grease then the result is clean.

Sorry loads of typos.

valiumredhead · 04/04/2012 09:26

If you squirt some bleach on a skiddy toilet and come back an hour later - everything has disappeared. It cleans

toddlerama · 04/04/2012 10:07

I am stunned that people use bleach on crockery and cutlery. You EAT bleach?? How many times have I eaten it in other peoples homes Confused?

valiumredhead · 04/04/2012 10:16

People sterilise baby's bottles and teats in bleach - they do it in the SCUBU. Presumably you have been to a swimming pool before toddler?

Bleach cleans. It kills bacteria.

valiumredhead · 04/04/2012 12:40

technoduck · 04/04/2012 12:52

Bleach does 3 things though - bleaches, cleans and disinfects. I have just read the bottle.

If you clean a sink with bleach on a sponge - it cleans it.

MoreBeta · 04/04/2012 13:35

I buy this commercial kitchen cleaning product and dilute it up. It degreases and kills bacteria without any taint or smell. Products like this are used all over the food service industry now and cost a fraction of what branded household cleaners cost.

moonbells · 04/04/2012 13:56

The interesting thing for me is how bleach kills bacteria and viruses - the hypochlorite destroys proteins they need to survive. They can't adapt to the bleach and never become resistant to it. Antibacterial soaps on the other hand don't contain bleach per se, and after a while, bacteria may become resistant to them.

Superbugs are one of the biggest problems facing us these days, so I am perfectly happy to use bleach spray (the 15% Domestos one, for instance) with a scrubbing pad to clean worksurfaces. But I'd only use it on utensils or chopping boards when there's been raw meat present, or soil from veggies. And then I'd rinse thoroughly afterwards.

I only use neat bleach on real nasties.

Astr0naut · 04/04/2012 13:59

I was once told that biological washing powder is the greatest thing for washing stuff.

And if you have a pan with burnt on crap, gently heat bio wash in it and the nanobots wil eat everything up.

Smile Glad to have whipped some of you into a floor cleaning frenzy!

It is amazing though how good it is...god I need to get out more.

CremeEggThief · 04/04/2012 14:54

Just cleaned my bathrooms with Method All Purpose spray for the first time. I've heard some good things about this range. Do any of you use it? I even used some on the en-suite loo seat, instead of my usual anti-bac wipes. I poured a little bleach down too. I think I will use the wipes on the downstairs loo later (no point in doing it now, as DS has a friend over for the afternoon), as it gets more traffic, so the Method may not be strong enough.

EasterBummy · 04/04/2012 15:01

My DH loves bleach too! He sticks it in the washing machine and never learns when the clothes change colour! Hmm he even washes his hands in bleach after he's been fixing the car...

Whateveryousaymustberight · 04/04/2012 15:38

I agree with the people who say that bleach smells rank. Also TCP. Don't let him get hold of that! Can't he use something that makes your house smell good, and doesn't destroy everything it touches?

technoduck · 04/04/2012 16:04

He will use other cleaning stuff but he still thinks that bleach is the best use on really rank jobs, Ive now decided to hide the bleach in the shed.
easterbummy how on earth can your dh wash his hands with bleach? Im heading off to a&e went dh finshes work cause my hands are looking and feeling so bad, red weeping and cracked now. Confused
