Grrr there on,y seems to be double strength squash in supermarkets now, unless you buy the expensive huh juice squashes. Our kids use just as much squash as single squash despite many many lectures that you only need half as much bloody teenagers

Gone to make oh a nice iced squash with dinner and it's all bloody gone! Only bought two bottles on Saturday as I am on wine not really that bothered

Get the value stuff. Not so painful then.

Whatafuzzfoot · 02/04/2012 19:48

I can't taste any difference with them- I still use the same amount as normal squash as they don't taste any stronger!

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 02/04/2012 19:49

Yuck how can they use tge same amount? I suggest you buy done mum only squash and hide it in tge cupboard.

AKMD · 02/04/2012 19:49

Maybe make some squash up and put it in the fridge at the beginning of the day, then hide the squash?

Treefutom · 02/04/2012 19:51

Stop buying squash, it's rank.

Bogeyface · 02/04/2012 19:51

Totally agree.

As it happens we now have to buy the high juice stuff as it is the only one that doesnt seem to send DS completely doolally, but before we realised what evil aspartame was Blush I used to have the same problem.

Of course now you are going to get a whole load of replies telling you that you shouldnt be giving them squash at all and that all you should give children of any age is water or milk with a single glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice on their birthdays :o

keepingupwiththejoneses · 02/04/2012 19:51

I would say that is an issue with you dc not the squash. Asda's one is really strong, you only need a tiny bit, as ds1 discovered when he tried to put the amount he would of single strength Grin

Rhinosaurus · 02/04/2012 19:51

That's the point they make it, then taste it, go yuk, and chuck half of it.

Training teenagers is a thankless task.

Rhinosaurus · 02/04/2012 19:53

Err they are 13 x 2, 15, 16 and 18 so it's all we can do to stop them drinking their own weight in Monster/red bull/coke/

Could try them on milk but would cost even more, might have to buy a cow!

Bogeyface · 02/04/2012 19:58

Well if thats what it takes Rhino, nothing is too good for our kiddies you know :o

You need a 10 year old to be the policeman, mine was always flying into me with "MUUUUUUMMMMMMEEEEEEE...X has used LOADS of squash AGAIN!!"

PrisonerOfWaugh · 02/04/2012 20:08

I'd suggest decanting half of it into a spare bottle, then topping up with water - without them knowing of course. Then sit back smugly and let them make it the regular way!

MickyDodger · 02/04/2012 20:29

Buy regular squash, Tesco is full of the stuff.

Rhinosaurus · 02/04/2012 20:39

We couldn't find the regular stuff in our tesco, it was all double strength, apart from the expensive high juice squash.

LittlePandaBear · 02/04/2012 20:42

I think the double concentrate is now like normal squash, and now the normal squash is like half strength squash. Rip off!

TheSkiingGardener · 02/04/2012 20:44

PrisonerOfWaugh is a genius

Rhinosaurus · 02/04/2012 20:52

Yes the decanting is a great idea! Must buy a funnel.

BellaVita · 02/04/2012 20:56

DS1 is careful with the double strength squash and literally puts a drop in, but DS2 on the other hand... He uses the same amount as normal squash. It would make me shudder to try and drink a glass that had the same measure as normal squash.

Goodness 5 teenagers in the house. I hate to think what your shopping bill is each week.

kumquatsarethelonelyfruit · 02/04/2012 21:05

I agree with you. If you buy value stuff then you need double the amount so you're back where you started (head spins and not even from the aspartame)

Rhinosaurus · 02/04/2012 21:08

It works out about £80 a week, We menu plan, write a list and stick to it. We all have packed lunches even tho it bores the tits off me making them every weekday

Doesn't include alcohol, have to buy that by the crate to be delivered....

I hate the double strength squash. Can never get it to the right taste for me, always search out the normal stuff when its abailable.

VickityBoo · 02/04/2012 21:10

No they're fine for us - we use less Hmm

Can you keep an old bottle and make it up, store it in the fridge and the family can use that? Then you can make it your way.

I do like mine and dd's to be weak though.

Bohica · 02/04/2012 21:15

£80 for 7 people including pack lunches Shock

Be great if you could post your meal plan for me Grin
