Dd was asked in the playground last week if she could attend a party on x date, both children looked to me and said please, please, please. As we had no plans and was during the holiday I agreed however I have just found out the details. The party is being held a 2 hour bus ride away and will last for one hour before we do the 2 hour journey home. Parents are not allowed to stay and its an activity dd does not like.

If it makes a difference dd was only invited after the first choice children sent their regrets. So can I cancel in clear conscience or should I suck it up and make the most of q bad situation?

Not at all unreasonable.

There was another thread yesterday about a party an hour and a half away. I don't understand the thinking of parents booking parties so far away.

We live pretty rurally and there is not a lot of choice for places to have parties. we could book stuff in the nearest city, but if we did I would find a way to take all of the invited children.

YANBU and I think you can safely give the fact you don't drive as a very valid reason.

YANBU - but if your DD wants to do it, i'd suggest you tell the parents you can't take her because of travel issues, but if the birthday girl's parents can collect her/drop her home, you're happy for DD to go...

No of course YANBU. What a silly thing to do for a party, making it so incredibly difficult for people to attend.

The parents probably picked the venue because it had a good deal on offer, or because their own DC adore the place or something. Still, it would have been smart to do something like hire a minibus or at least round up a couple of volunteers with big cars to ferry the kids there and back from a central meeting point.
