I have just been reading Saturday's Guardian newspaper which has an article about parenting, In it there is a box titled "How to be a better parent - Tips from the experts". Justine says the following:

" Put away your mobile, turn off your laptop and don't even think about a Blackberry or an iPhone."

" Put away your mobile, turn off your laptop and don't even think about a Blackberry or an iPhone."

How would she know?
She is miles away at the mn office so the above is completely irrelevant to her DCs.

EssentialFattyAcid · 02/04/2012 18:13

That advice is guarenteed to result in almost certain nervous breadown imo and is highly irresponsible

TheSockPuppet · 02/04/2012 18:15

It's an Imac Fruitshoots so I think I'm ok :o

amillionyears · 02/04/2012 19:21

I have noticed that higher ups are prone to being hypocrites.
They know what the best advice is, and take joy in telling it to other people, but dont actually do it themselves.

CremeEggThief · 02/04/2012 19:23

I was thinking "EH???" when I saw that too!

DoubleGlazing · 02/04/2012 19:43

Thought you were discussing a colourful new type of iMac there... the "iMac Fruitshoots"! :o

McHappyPants2012 · 02/04/2012 19:46

desktop is ok :)

landofsoapandglory · 02/04/2012 19:54

You don't get that sort of high and mighty bollocks in the Sun! They just tells ya to stuff a Greggs sausage roll in one hand and a fruitshoot in t'other and leave 'em to it! Works wonders it does!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/04/2012 19:58

I'm ok i'm on my desktop because my laptop broke. wore it out too much mumsnetting

lesley33 · 02/04/2012 20:00

I think claiming it doesn't apply to you because you use a desktop is a bit......errrmm......clutching at straws? Hmm

And Shock @Justine.
From my iPhone, DC in bed so clearly I'm fine [smug]

WincyEtNightie · 02/04/2012 20:07

Classic case of "Do as I say, not as I do, there eh Justine?" Wink

edam · 02/04/2012 20:52

I suspect Justine had a twinkle in her eye which didn't come across in cold hard print...

candr · 02/04/2012 20:58

But how would we be able to see what Justine is up to without tv or gadgets? - who has time to read the paper - am Envy

ChaoticAngel · 02/04/2012 21:16

My DC are 17 & 19. Does this mean I have to drag them off their laptops? Confused

lesley33 · 02/04/2012 21:31

candr - I am MNing much less - which is why I had time to read Justine's advice in the first place Grin

amillionyears · 02/04/2012 21:36

Good for you lesley33.This MN thing does tend to drag us in doesnt it?
My excuse reason is that I am having a bit of time off. But reality is going to hit soon and I am going to have to limit myself.

OliviaLMumsnet · 02/04/2012 21:41

@edam

I suspect Justine had a twinkle in her eye which didn't come across in cold hard print...

We ought to campaign for the Guardian to have this Grin emoticon, no?
Shock

IAmBooyhoo · 02/04/2012 21:41

i lay my dcs clothes out weeks in advance...just never all in the same place, or ironed, or folded. it's like a treasure hunt every morning. the winner gets matching socks Blush Grin

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/04/2012 21:45

Booy, you have the same system as me Grin

I threatened to go and fold washing earlier. Two hours later I'm still here Blush

I've given up now and ordered wine instead.

lesley33 · 02/04/2012 21:45

Olivia, I do think we deserve to know what suitable retribution the rest of MNHQ will be taking?

IAmBooyhoo · 02/04/2012 21:55

OliviaLMumsnet · 02/04/2012 21:58
