because no one in my family or people I know will want to listen.

Had a hell of a weekend. Discovered I had threadworms on Friday night (I am the kind of person who hoovers every day and keeps on top of household matter and washes hands all the time, to the point they are dry and sore.) After looking at my bum hole (I felt itchy) and seeing one or two of them, I checked my daughter's who was asleep. She had them too. Sent OH out to buy pills from Boots open until 12. Took pill myself, made him take pill despite protestations he didn't have them.

Morning came, so did a OCD style clean up with disinfectant. Toys cleaned, beds stripped and washed, hoovering again, soft toys put in machine at 60.
OH sitting on computer with daughter. Out to get more disinfectant etc, back to it again. Whole house done. Had to shout for help, shouldn't have to.

Today, the washing machine is still going, another wipedown and hoover. OH said he would do me breakfast, but it didn't materialise. Fuss to get daughter in bath again. Now OH is snoring on sofa, he's had it tough.

I want to talk to someone and share my woes, but can't tell mother, as she would be disgusted and would never come round again (not that she does anyway), and sister would reel also.

I feel unclean, fed up and damned pissed off.

OK, getting worms is not pleasant but you do need to sit down and have a cup of tea/glass of wine/bar of chocolate and chill out. It really isn't the end of the world and you've done all you need, but same as nits you need to be prepared for re-infection. My DC had a phase when it seemed they were getting them every month or so. sorry just wanted to warn you! But like with nits the first time is worst and then you just get on with it.

I was most offended when someone had the termerity to suggest that my kids got worms from our dogs! My dogs have never had worms (and anyway dogs don't get thread worms!) Grin

Top tip - don't post in AIBU if you are after sympathy. Wink

PairyHussy · 01/04/2012 15:03

Good God Stratters, what would Worra say!

Stratters · 01/04/2012 15:05

Horrified ranting probs.

I used to worm my DDs when I wormed LittleDog and FailCat.

Flossiechops · 01/04/2012 15:06

Op if it makes you feel any better I have had them 3 times!! God they make me feel awful but I suspect it's the children picking them up from school. We went to Cyprus last summer after a long journey we had just walked into the hotel room when dd exclaims that her bottom feels itchy! There the little feckers are, I had no medication and it was 11pm at night. I nearly had kittens until the next morning when I managed to find a pharmacy!

My dh claims that he never has them either, I do bite my nails and I think this is how I pick them up. After a few times I don't stress so much, just always keep a spare supply of ovex and make sure you all wash your hands before eating. You have my sympathy!

PairyHussy · 01/04/2012 15:07

Mothership thank you. I did have wine yesterday and a sit down. Was not in OCD style manic cleaning session. Cleaned all things you touch, did not scrub the walls! (for everyone's info) and no will not be posting on this area again for sympathy! I am prepared for more of the buggers and will nuke them again with pills!

Why are you so annoyed with Worra? She was just saying what she thought and IMO wasn't particularly nasty or offensive.

Confused
PairyHussy · 01/04/2012 15:10

Maybe as it was my first time, I panicked, but I am calm and if they come back I will kill them swiftly with a cold, wicked sense of calm - the squirmy buggers.

Right so to re-cap....

You asked "AIBU to air my grievances on here?"

YANBU

But if you expect everyone to agree with you then YABVU

Happy to help....

PosiePumblechook · 01/04/2012 15:12

Threadworms are gross but not really different to any other bug we pick up...aside from their size.

I would suggest ensuring your children wash their hands and that you wash all fruit and vegetables. But most people get them at one time or another if they are in close contact with children.

jemsgem · 01/04/2012 15:16

Huge over reaction
My kids got them from eating fruit abroad
Cleared up after one treatment. No big deal . No panic. No fuss. No mad over reaction
I bet your oh is sniggering to himself about how daft you are

NowWeKnow · 01/04/2012 15:17

Aw I really feel for you. As others have said you've done all you can, it's not the end of the world...yes well, all that's true, but I also went ott when they decided to visit our house. It really upset me.

I did a similar 'aargh!' type pf thread at the time and someone said 'don't worry, I bet even the Queen's had them'. For some reason that really cheered me upGrin

Think of it as a right of passage You've gotta laugh or you'll cry. Have a Wine.

WorraLiberty · 01/04/2012 15:18

Think of it as a right of passage

I think the OP's far to anal Grin

PurpleRomanesco · 01/04/2012 15:18

I got them from eating raw potatoes (peeled!) as a child.

Mmm hankering for some raw chips now.

jemsgem · 01/04/2012 15:18

Lol you didn't even give the tablets anytime to work

valiumredhead · 01/04/2012 15:19

What's worse worms or nits?

I feel I need Harry HIll to decide Grin

ABatInBunkFive · 01/04/2012 15:20

Well i've survived as has many other people on the thread...

You are perfectly entitled to do as you see fit, but if you ask about it expect answers that may differ

DPrince · 01/04/2012 15:20

Dd has had them once. I, as pp, did some cleaning, toilets, towels, pjs, clothes. Nothing compared to you and she didn't get them again. Tbh if I went on a cleaning spree like that, dh (who does more than his fair share) would let me get on with. Why should if he feels its unnecessary? it does sound like you have cleaning issues, maybe learnt from your mum. Not being nasty, just saying that's how your post come across. Also don't post in this forum if you don't want people to disagree, just a tip. :)

PurpleRomanesco · 01/04/2012 15:20

Worms. I'd rather rather scratch my head than my arse. :o

Flossiechops · 01/04/2012 15:22

I totally agree, worms are far worse. At least with nits you can see them, the thought of those little feckers crawling around my gut is not nice. Don't get me started on the party that they have when your asleep either....!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/04/2012 15:29

I didn't think Worra's comment was out of order either. I think there are far more people who agree with her than disagree with her anyway.

OP... I'm sorry that you've had a worm problem, I hope it's now resolved. A tip though, if you post on a chatboard you'll get a range of responses; some are sympathetic, others are more matter-of-fact - all grist to the mill.

PairyHussy · 01/04/2012 15:29

Thanks for all your replies. Really couldn't give an arse if some think that I'm anal. Some others have said they had the same reaction as me, so I'm not alone. As I said it was my first time and it's my right of passage.

I do like to think I can laugh about it now and next time will just think up yours and nuke the buggers again.

I'm sure OH is not sniggering (he's snoring his head off on the sofa) and would not be if he was scratching his arsehole all the time like daughter was, so will appreciate my cleaning spree.

PosiePumblechook · 01/04/2012 15:30

Nice puns.,

Letchladeee · 01/04/2012 15:33

Sorry another one who thinks your response is perhaps a bit OTT.

My Dds had worms, so I gave them the tablets, changed their bedding, made them wear pants in bed, boil washed all their undies and sleep wear, and that was that. Never reinfected.

I didn't see the need to disinfect the whole house, and I suspect your DH doesn't see the need either. Now if you choose to do that, then fine that's your choice - but I don't see why you should inflict that on your dh (if he also feels its unnecessary).

Letchladeee · 01/04/2012 15:33

X post!

PeanutButterCupCake · 01/04/2012 16:26

Urgh little bum residing feckers!

I had to do an emergency dash to the all night chemist when I discovered them. Couldn't bear the thought of them wriggling around my bumhole.

Bring on the bleach and full hazmat suit Grin
