(A little long sorry!)
I have recently had my yearly performance review at work to discuss my performance throughout the year which is linked to a pay rise. This is the first one I've had. I was told before the meeting that the pay rise is based on targets met from the previous year, and that the pay rise would be between 0 and 9% depending on how well i've performed.
During the meeting my manager and I went over my targets and It was established that I had met most of them, and the ones I hadn't had been to circumstances beyond my control. I felt very positive coming out of the meeting.
My manager then went away to discuss with the management team what my increase would be, and would get back to me.
I heard back today and my manager said along the lines of "as you know inflation this year is 4% which is the most you would've got, we feel you have done very well this year although there are a couple of areas of improvement so we are giving you 3%" she then went on to calculate that on to my salary and tell me what it would be now.
AIBU to be really quite offended that they have essentially said that I have done very well this year and therefore we are only paying you slightly less than last year instead of a lot less!
I don't have the 0-9% thing written down anywhere but that is definitely what I was told as that was what I was expected and I haven't been through the process before. This isn't so much about the money but how it was handled, I realise (economic downturn etc.) that the money might not be there but to dress it up as a pay increase when they were never actually intended to give me one has left me feeling angry and upset.
AIBU?
