AIBU To return this item even though it has 'technically' been used?

I purchased a few new items for my bathroom today. A liquid soap dispenser, a toothbrush holder, a soap dish and one of those 'undesignated' holder, pot thing.
They are all in a matching design, but were sold individually.

They are lovely but after filling the liquid soap dispenser with liquid soap and 'testing it out' I had a massive shock when instead of suirting the soap into my hand it shot out in an upwards direction (and spattered on my chest).

It has been throughly tested and inspected and we think there is a something defecting with the inside on the pump bit.

would it be unreasonable to return the item, in exchange for a replacement, even though i have already filled it with hand wash?
I will throughly wash it out before returning (obviously).

It was over £20 so I feel I have the right to swap it for a none faulty one. Especially when it will be practically unusable as there is no way to use it without having soap squirted at you.

No because it's not because you just don't like it, it's not fit for purpose. So you can return with the law on your side Grin

YANBU

GavisconJunkie · 30/03/2012 21:11

It's faulty not sure why you're worried?

fussbucket · 30/03/2012 21:13

what rhonda and gaviscon said. goods have to be fit for purpose, and if they're faulty the seller has to refund or exchange - your choice.

MrsKittyFane · 30/03/2012 21:24

Take it back to the shop ( still with soap in it) and ask them to try it out! :o

MarjoryWhinfield · 30/03/2012 22:18

No, not at all. It's faulty, get a replacement.

LentillyFart · 30/03/2012 22:23

Just take it back. This is not a truly difficult thing to figure out is it?

PimpMyTunnel · 30/03/2012 22:26

£20 for a soap dispenser Shock

StopSwearingNagoo · 30/03/2012 22:27

it's your right to take it back. You don't have to pretend you never used it.

Aribura · 31/03/2012 13:39

They'll refund it. Then again, if you have £20 to blow on a soap dispenser then I'm sure you could weather the loss even if they didn't. Hmm
