To think that one holiday blessing is no packed lunches for 2 whole weeks?

I hate the faff and expense involved with packed lunches.

And no ironing of school uniform either!

I thank the lord my sons school does amazing school dinners. On the occasion he needs a packed lunch (trips etc) it's such a faff. I think packed lunches are harder to make than a real dinner, trying to do a balanced diet that fits in a box and will be tasty after 3 hours in a bag? No thanks!

supernannyisace · 30/03/2012 18:55

Yes. My DS insists on a packed lunch still - even though he is 14. he does make his own sometimes.

it is because he does his homework at lunch break - and it is quicker to scoff down his pack up - rather than queue for school meal.

I do wish he would have a school meal sometimes though....

AutumnSummers · 30/03/2012 18:56

No packed lunches and alternating lie-ins. Yes please!

NowWeKnow · 30/03/2012 18:58

I've got so used to doing them now I hardly feel the pain. As Stranded says, lunch still has to be made.

My luxury with school holidays is no book bag/school letters to contend with (ie demands for money/costumes/help/random off the wall items which sound easy to find but are actually nigh on impossible) to conjure up. The relief is wonderful.

Kitchentiles · 30/03/2012 19:01

If you hate them that much, why can't they have school dinners?

Mine are not school-age yet so fully prepared to hear that I've just said something stupid.

NettoSuperstar · 30/03/2012 19:03

DD gets free dinners, I really couldn't be asred with the faff of packed lunches.
I let her have them for one half term, and hated it.
At home, she just makes her own.

daisydoodoo · 30/03/2012 19:05

No packed lunches in school holidays here as dc go to grannies and she feeds them breakfast lunch and dinner, so a total break for me. Let the children sleep in an hour later, go to grannies in pj's. Collect at 6pm and the youngest three already bathed and fed. Only the teenager to get ready for bed but he usually goes out for an hour with his mates, then home for bath.
Granny loves it as with school and work she rarely sees them in term time, she'd even taking them to the coast for the second week with my sister. I'll go down bank holiday weekend and come home Monday evening leaving them to have fun while I go to work.

Arabellamilla · 30/03/2012 19:06

yayyyyy no packed lunches, no 6am alarm, no ironing school shirts etc and all 5 of the kids every single day wall to wall.............. errrr s*it, no actually, I want to pack lunches :(

Im joking ;)

MrsMcEnroe · 30/03/2012 19:06

OK, am I a lazy slattern or do you all iron your DCs' school uniform?

I just hang it up to dry and then they wear it - it's non-crease .... why would you iron it???

fedupofnamechanging · 30/03/2012 19:13

I don't iron school uniform - only the tshirts sometimes. I got fed up with putting lovely ironed clothes in the drawer only to find a screwed up mess, where they wanted something right at the bottom and turned everything on top into crinkled balls, in order to find it!

I, too, am looking forward to more leisurely mornings and no packed lunches.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 30/03/2012 19:15

For us it's the opposite as dd goes to a kids' club for half-term.

The stress of making packed lunches (usually has school meals), ensuring that she has everything for the numerous outings/trips, choosing what to wear each day.

Term time is sooooo much easier!

startail · 30/03/2012 19:59

I second the random short notice demand letters and texts. We have had a mountain of them last two weeks.
Easter hats, decorated eggs, church, kit and packed lunch for interschool sport. Money for PTA end of term stall etc.
