My three daughters 9, 12, 15 yr old are (still) wearing aprons during meals at home. They are used to it and don't mind.
Not that they really need them, but accident do happens, and I really don't like them to ruin a cloth due to an accidental stain.

AIBU ?

imnotmymum · 30/03/2012 13:46

why would they be more careless at home ? they probably doing it to annoy you OMG they are 9-15 you are making this up I am sure ????

CrystalMaize · 30/03/2012 14:11

If this is true I feel very sorry for your daughters.

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2012 14:14

:)

MadameMessy · 30/03/2012 14:18

My mum did this. Until I moved out at 23 I got a look if I didn't put on an apron. Why are you infantilising teens?

imnotmymum · 30/03/2012 14:21

MadameMessy is that where your name came from are you now rebelling and being a messy mare ???

MadameMessy · 30/03/2012 14:29

Am messy as in untidy, not regards eating! :o
But I suspect my messiness (sp?) is from hoarding as we were never allowed "clutter" at home, so now i like to keep my things just because I can. Im working on it though, and don't think it's even the start of my ishoos with my mum and control :(

FondleWithCare · 30/03/2012 14:33

Do they have friends over often?

Pandemoniaa · 30/03/2012 14:55

Yes, do you have "guest aprons"?

AutumnSummers · 30/03/2012 14:59

Aprons? Oh how embarrassing for them! They are definately not going to thank you in later years for this!

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/03/2012 15:01

They must be dying inside.

LineRunner · 30/03/2012 15:05

Bib and pants. Quite a look.

Lueji · 30/03/2012 15:17

Not sure what good aprons are. What about sleeves?

I'd make them wear a bib.

SuePurblybilt · 30/03/2012 15:17

We all do this in my household but for economy, we use bin bags. Swing bin for the little ones. Just poke a hold at one end and in you pop.

tantrumsandballoons · 30/03/2012 15:21

Just cover them in bubble wrap, all day and then give it a quick wipe before bed.

Quenelle · 30/03/2012 15:26

I just make sure our meals match our outfits.

Diamondgirls · 30/03/2012 15:27

I can't tell if this a joke or not?

LadyBeagleEyes · 30/03/2012 15:31

Grin Quenelle.
But really, you make a 15 year old wear an apron?
How?
My ds is 16 and I can't imagine him ever agreeing to that.

BlueFergie · 30/03/2012 16:27

I don't care if this is a wind up, it's a genius idea. I may try this with my two particularly DD who is 5 and the messiest eater I have ever seen, worse by far than her 3 year old brother. The only thing is the aprons you use are no good as she gets the food all over her sleeves as well (I don't know how).
For your specific circumstances I think YABU. They are not messy so I think you can risk the occassionnal accident and deal with spillages rather than treat them like little kids.

LineRunner · 30/03/2012 16:35

Not only do you need a large bib-type garment, but you also need textile-based arm coverings.

You could fashion such garments and call them 'clothes'.
