Due to previous problems with my fil and mil, me and my H have stopped seeing them for a while
...anyway i got a text of her today which has really hurt me AIBU to think this text is insulting considering my childrens meals are all cooked from scratch & they are fed very well or do u think she was being helpful?

This is the text
Asda is to give kids under three free vitamin d tablets from sunday to counter rickets x

Can't you just ignore it?

PooPooInMyToes · 29/03/2012 13:14

Honestly, it sounds like you're looking for a reason to take it badly.

diddl · 29/03/2012 13:15

TBH I think that you are taking it far too much to heart.

If you´ve stopped seeing them, would she be stupid enough to mess up chances of seeing you again?

Look, if you´re doing your best & your s´children are healthy, why would you care what anyone else thinks anyway?

pictish · 29/03/2012 13:16

I don't think it's a slur btw.

Kewcumber · 29/03/2012 13:17

"Its caused by malutrition mostly" Confused

No, I have never heard of a case in the UK caused by malnutrition.

My family would roll around laughing at the idea I am malnourished - and my Vitamin D was so low I had to have it injected instead of taking it orally.

pumpkinsweetie · 29/03/2012 13:20

I do intend to ignore it as a text can mean anything-ive only took it to heart because fil said he never wants to see his grandkids again and doesnt care if he loses them- because he thought we hadnt bought Hs mum a presentSad

Kewcumber · 29/03/2012 13:20

I'm not surprised that you find her comments offensive if you find her saying that Asda is doing free vitamins offensive. Either she has genuinely been so massively offensive in the past that you have lost perspective about what is and isn't offensive or you are the most easily offended person I have come across.

How is it relevant that you could afford to buy it - she's saying you can get it free - why wouldn't you? Confused

AWimbaWay · 29/03/2012 13:21

Is nobody else thinking they'll be off to Asda to get some of those because that was my first thought?

Kewcumber · 29/03/2012 13:21

"fil said he never wants to see his grandkids again and doesnt care if he loses them" - now that I would find offensive!

But your MIL's text to me sounds much more like a way to break the ice and get in contact again.

And she isn't him.

diddl · 29/03/2012 13:23

I don´t know your "backstory" if there is one-but from your last post-FIL sounds awful.

Is MIL awful also-if not, is she trying to make amends for her husband´s twattery?

doctordwt · 29/03/2012 13:23

Send back,

'New studies suggest that randomly insulting behaviour in the over 60s is a sign of dementia - ASDA to trial anti-dementia supplements on those caught ranting in-store.'

PooPooInMyToes · 29/03/2012 13:25

Oh the mothers day rant? I remember that one. Mental!

CreepyWeeBrackets · 29/03/2012 13:25

Thanks Kew Smile

I do eat a LOT of eggs. Most days really but as you say - not enough.

I will make sure to spend much more time MNing in the garden hanging washing out and pulling up weeds this year!

pumpkinsweetie · 29/03/2012 13:27

I know she isnt him but she has stuck up for him over it Sad
In the past she has said a lot of offensive stuff so that could be why im seeing this as something it is not
All fil has to do is apologise but 2 weeks later no apologySad
She has said things like "dont u feed it" to me about my 6 year old and called my H a tellytubbie even though she is morbidly obese, called my sil child fat and that her jeans look sprayed on (shes only 14), etc so its no wonder iv took it as an insult

CreepyWeeBrackets · 29/03/2012 13:30

Oh-hhhhh... it's you - with the seething and raging driving FIL! That is one heck of a back-story, yes, but I'm not sure MIL is being horrible exactly. It's odd, but she has to live with that maniac.

Difficult, but I would ignore.

PooPooInMyToes · 29/03/2012 13:30

She referred to your child as it!?

diddl · 29/03/2012 13:33

I think I´d keep not seeing both of them tbh.

And ignore emails from her/them!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/03/2012 13:33

"dont u feed it"
You mean she asked you if you don't feed your child, and called the child 'it'? Shock

I'd delete the text and respond with a dignified silence. She sounds like a right old mare.

pumpkinsweetie · 29/03/2012 13:34

Oh yes an 'it', my friend whi was round at the time was so shocked her eyes nearly popped out.
Fil-yep the seething present maniac has still not apologised

OP posts:
CreepyWeeBrackets · 29/03/2012 13:34

Was she the one who informed your child that your DH was not her biological father?

If so, she is as bad as FIL is.

happygilmore · 29/03/2012 13:35

you can't get vit d from the sun at this time of year, it's not high enough in the sky yet. April -Sep only in this country.

pumpkinsweetie · 29/03/2012 13:35

Yep Creepy, thats the one!

OP posts:
zeropinterest · 29/03/2012 13:36
  1. Ignore MIL and delete her texts BEFORE you read them. You'll be happier.

  2. Educate yourself about Vit D just to make sure there's no deficiency. It has nothing to do with diet.

pumpkinsweetie · 29/03/2012 13:39

zerointerest-sounds like a good idea
