AIBU to think that they should urine sample pots...

..specifically for women?

The sample pots they give you are stupidly narrow. Fine at home, can pee in a cup and pour it in, but when your asked to do one at the doctors, its bloody impossible to get the pee in without peeing all over the cup and your hands. Cue Blush face when you hand it over.

Am I just doing it wrong? Is there a knack to it?

Although feel i should add, I virtually NEVER swear in rl/

KatAndKit · 29/03/2012 13:13

batteryhen really? I am impressed by that. is it some sort of secret and you have to ask for one or do they give them out automatically to women? I'll be literally pissed off if I have missed out on this!

Hahaha Grin

At my hospital they give you piss pots with built in funnels that pull off - then you attach the lid. But then I do live in That London, they probably haven't reached the provinces yet.

BareBums · 29/03/2012 13:16

I agree with kitkat

margoandjerry · 29/03/2012 13:18

That London Grin

I also live up London (or up Lunnon as my gran would say) and I have never seen these funnels of which you speak. You must be in K&C somewhere where all the posh things are Grin

SparkyMcSparrow · 29/03/2012 13:18

Do all hospitals have these piss pots with funnels attached?

OP posts:
Bearcrumble · 29/03/2012 13:21

No no, very un-posh - King's College Hospital is my local.

McPopcornMouseNFries · 29/03/2012 14:02

My last pee pot had a lovely clean, printed sticky label wrapped around it. I could have cried!

Pontouf · 29/03/2012 15:05

Had to produce a sample today. The pot I was given had a diameter of about 2cm - and no funnel. Wouldn't have been too bad if it hadn't been unexpected and I hadn't had a wee before I left the house (like a well dragged up girl). Had a tiny dribble of wee to catch in this minuscule pot and still manage to piss all over the printed label on the outside (surprisingly absorbent, no amount of wiping was going to dry that bastard). Was mortified handing the pathetically small soggy specimen to the dr Blush

batteryhen · 29/03/2012 15:06

kitandkat You can ask for them - I think most surgeries do have them although they are probably more expensive. Next time I get one I will take a photo to show off show you all Grin

smartiesrule · 29/03/2012 16:16

Sparky Yes, YABVVU. What a pathetic thing to whinge about. Haven't you got anything better to do like chatting on a decent thread?! Wink Grin

valiumredhead · 29/03/2012 16:17

I just wrap a paper towel around the pit before I pee to catch any drips.

Hopandaskip · 29/03/2012 16:38

the ones here are about 4cm across.

::smug about living somewhere with superior pee pots::

sashh · 30/03/2012 10:18

if the pot is in contact with your body you can't miss.

confusedpixie · 30/03/2012 10:25

YABU, get a sheewee and quit complaining Wink

Mine is in my bag and goes everywhere with me!

minimisschief · 30/03/2012 10:51

its not easy as a man either those pots can fill up fast and cutting off middway isnt an exact science. it can still go everywhere.

BionicEmu · 30/03/2012 11:25

Here (East Midlands), they give you the tiny, 2cm diameter across pots as standard. And nope, I have never managed to do a specimen in them - as soon as I hold the damn pot in place I get perfomance anxiety and can't actually do anything, even if I'm bursting for a wee Blush Have to do it in a cup and pour.

The ones with funnels are for sterile specimens - so if your little pot sample shows up positive for something then you often get sent to do a sterile sample in case the first one was just contaminated.

Also, I used to work in biochemistry in a hospital, and the stupid little pots weren't for our benefit - we had to pour pipette some of the urine into little vials for the analyser machines.

NoMoreInsomnia12 · 30/03/2012 11:26

Most are supposed to be a mid stream sample. I start peeing, stop, line up and aim!

Gigimac · 07/06/2012 17:00

There are a few things around, but they need a mid-stream to get the right result. There's something called Peezy that's new on the NHS which means nothing gets wet and the right bit of the sample goes into the tiny bottle without you having to do anything - except wee. A friend's daughter got given one in Bromley but they are starting to be given out in more places.

EasilyBored · 07/06/2012 17:05

Wrap the outside on the pot in a paper towels, so then the label doesn't get wet.

But yeah, they are stupidly designed.
