I have always used a playpen for my dcs,
and was wondering what peoples thoughts are on them ?
I have found using one invaluable when cooking, cleaning and doing general housekeeping, it keeps my daughter out of harms way and i know shes safe whilst doing housework.
AIBU in using one or do you think they are a good invention?

I had one for DD (who is now 7) I just used a travel cot and I loved it, when I needed to get to the toilet in peace and for the cleaning etc!!

I planned on using one for the one on the way but because my OH hates them with a passion (no reason really, he's never liked the idea of 'caging' a baby Confused ) so looks like I won't be having one for this baby :(

We have a travel cot in our kitchen/dining room (quite a big space since being extended).

DS goes in there if we need to do something and want him to be safe. He has a variety of toys in there and will quite happily spend 10-15 minutes in it which can be a godsend.

Also, as our garden isn't quite sorted out yet and toddler safe since the extension was built, we can take it outside and he will play in there for ages and ages quite a while as long as he can see what we are doing Smile

when I was pregnant my dh happened to mention, whilst speaking to his gran on the phone, that we were thinking about getting a playpen. She got upset and told him that we couldn't put a baby in a cage. About 30 minutes later we got a phone call from mil saying that we were going to be terrible parents if we used a playpen Shock

We used a travel cot when ds was little and then when he was more mobile we converted our dining room into a playroom. However, we couldn't take the dresser out, which had dinner service/glasses in, so opened up a babydan playpen and put it in front of the dresser and put a stairgate on the door into the kitchen, so the room ended up looking like a very big playpen Grin

I had one & it was useful, but it was a hand me down.

Not sure if I would have bothered to buy one.

They are a great idea - if anyone in NI has one they are looking rid of I will be glad to take it off your hands!

I think they are great personally.Safety first i always say.It just gave me peace of mind if i had to go to loo or quick shower.
