To think ffs conduct your private business elsewhere!

I can hear the private lives of a couple being played out outside my home. Last night I was woken by a woman talking on the doorstep of a neighbor - for 45 MINUTES. This started at approx 11.30pm. What is going on? Does the fine weather affect people's hearing? I live on an estate and we are all in quite close proximity. I don't mind that, it's quite nice to chat to neighbors. I don't, however, want to listen to who shagged who. Through my CLOSED bedroom window! Gah!

Once I hung out the window and got his attention (well, I didn't manage it, his little helper securing the ladder at its base had to point towards me to show him where the voice was coming from) the conversation went along these lines ...

Me : It's four in the morning. What are you doing?
Him : Umm. Changing the shop sign.
Me : It's four in the morning. Why?
Him : Umm. The chain has been bought over, the new owners want all the shops done by opening time.
Me : It's four in the morning. You're drilling six feet from my bedroom window. You've woken me up. Probably my neighbours too. Why did you think it was OK to drill outside people's flats at four in the morning?
Him : I didn't realise it was flats.
Me : What did you think it was?
Him : I thought it was a bank ...
Me : A bank? Up a close? With net curtains?
Him : Umm.
Me : It's four in the morning. I have work to go to later. I want to get back to sleep. You need to stop drilling until it's a decent hour.
Him : These are very powerful people!
Me : It's a bloody freezer shop, not the effing mafia! If you start drilling again, I will call the police and have you done for breach of the peace.
At which point they both climbed into their van, and didn't restart until 8am.

I mean, really "These are very powerful people!" - I thought I'd dropped into the twilight zone.
