Right,., I dont know if im being a brat, or if it is justifyable. I have taken my DD (now 13 months) swiming since she was 6 weeks, at least once a week. Recently, the pool we go to has got colder and colder. So last week we went and it was a shick to me when we walked down the steps into the pool, it was so cold! DD turned purple; and orange once we got into the shower afterwards. AMIBU to think this is too cold water? I apid £2.60 for hte privakidge of being this cold!

Fill in a comments and complaints form from the desk, maybe?

You've been going for a long time- it's not as if you just turned up, with no idea how cool a pool should be.

Babies shouldn't be going purple with cold in an indoor pool!

sunnydelight · 27/03/2012 06:21

Ask what the temperature is supposed to be, it should be consistent within a few degrees and monitored regularly. I would want at least 26 degrees for a child that age who isn't going to be able to swim to warm up!

YANBU. Complain!!! We have this problem at our local pool - last summer the baby pool was heated to the minimum legal temperature (27 degrees if I remember correctly), and we could only take DD (who was 6-9 months old during that period) in for a max of 15 mins before she started to go blue.

Despite numerous complaints from many parents the pool (owned by the council) refused to up the temp as they said they needed to save money. If it's the same this year I'll be looking for another pool. Is it too much to ask for your little one NOT to have to freeze? Angry

all our local pools are cold like this, hence the reason why I dont take dd3 swimming. It put dd2 off swimming for a long time and I refuse to take dd3.

Agree with Sunnydelight. But if nothing changes and you still want to take DD swimming...you can also get little neoprene wrap wetsuit things, which keep them warmer for longer

My lovely mum used to take DD to a baby swimming class years ago. They had the same experience and DD hated it. My mum complained and they said something bizarre like "Oh, it's good for them, babies can regulate their own temperature!" Ironically they had a gorgeous bath like toddler pool next to this big cold pool but they did not use it for the class! Suffice to say they stopped going to the classes.

thanks! (and sorry about my rubbish spelling in OP! dont know what was going on there!). We went yesterday and it was actually bearable, no purple baby! We did use a baby wetsuit on the very cold water day, and still too cold for her! Luckily dd still loves it even when its cold, bring on the summer when we can go in the sea! x :-)
