7 pm on a warm sunny day maybe not tbh, 8 yes if its a school day.

HSMM · 27/03/2012 09:46

My 12 yr old DD had to be in the house by 6:45 yesterday evening. The latest she is allowed out (at the height of Summer) would be 9pm (because it's still light), but that would be with someone she had been with since 4pm, not starting to meet new people and knock on doors!

Hoebag · 27/03/2012 09:50

really thats very early HSMM,

things have changed since I was a nipper. Confused

Mrsjay · 27/03/2012 09:55

my dd had to be in by 9 at 12 not 6 45 though thats a wee bit early imo for a 12 year old , but i didnt like mine Hanging about either so they were usually in for 8 on a school night ,

BreconBeBuggered · 27/03/2012 10:52

Had one little lad last summer who'd still be knocking doors looking for kids to play with at 9pm, but would appear before 9 the next morning at our gate, still in his pyjamas.

HSMM · 27/03/2012 21:51

She does get a lot of homework and gets very tired. She is happy to be in bed at 9.

As I said, in summer she can stay out til 9 (homework permitting),but we do live down a road even I don't like to walk along in the dark.

DD is more than happy with the arrangement.

rhondajean · 27/03/2012 21:57

Usually im a bit of a stickler for bed time and I would totally agree but the exceptional weather this week would make a bit more tolerant - god know when we will see the sun again! (lives in Scotland)

YANBU, drives me nuts when they come knocking at 8 when my dc (age 3 and 6) are in bed. The kids round here are out from the time they come home from school until gone 9 some nights Hmm

...and then they come knocking on a Saturday morning at 8 bloody 30 in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hulababy · 27/03/2012 22:09

Too late to be calling onohers at that time.

As for bedtimes, depends on the child.

Dd is 9y and on a school nightbgoes to bed to read between 8-9pm with lights out around 9pm. She's up about 7:15am for school. It's plenty of sleep for her. On drama nights she's not even home til 8 anyway, been doing at since 6yo.

blubberyboo · 27/03/2012 22:12

my kids are in bed for 9 and are up at 7.30 - 7.45 ...so they still get 10.5 hours sleep at least. wind down starts at 8.30 pm ie pjs toast teeth etc
it is the amount of sleep that is important so depends what time you get up.

if they went to bed any earlier i would never see much of them.

we live in the country so have no kids nearby to call for. it is a bit unreasonable to be knocking on doors at that time. but today was glorious and they played out in the garden til 8.30 making the most of the sunshine while it lasts

blubberyboo · 27/03/2012 22:17

lol but when we were kids our cue to come in was when the street lights came on. therefore depended on time of year......oh the memories of summers goneby!!!

eek sometimes we even camped out all night :o

Hi there, 1st time on Mumsnet and logged on to see if others have experienced events of today. Only son playing out with a friend only to be told off by neighbour who said that he wasn't to set one foot on the pavement outside her house or touch the lamp post - bizarre! Very quiet area, no noise so not a problem I thought for him to walk and play quietly but apparently so. Spent all afternoon with child, normally very resilient, who is worried about playing out?

lovebunny · 26/07/2012 21:07

much too late for me, but other people will have their own routines.

choose your curfew time, set it and stick to it. make it a little earlier than necessary so that you can occasionally allow extensions...

BonnieBumble · 26/07/2012 21:10

In the school holidays a later bedtime is fine. Ds (7) plays out until about 8:30 in the school hols, we are making the most of the sunny weather. Next week it will probably rain and he won't be able to play out at all.
