to be hacked off with ds's HT?

ds has a finger injury (football). I showed the before school club and explained, they said they'd strap it up and see how it went. I didn't think it was serious or broken just v bruised.
Got phone call from school and came to get him later, swelling increased, took to a&e, x-ray no break just bruise, strap and keep going etc. Ds tells me that his HT saw the finger midday and commented to before school club supervisor (who also does lunches) what was she (me) thinking of sending him in this condition?
aibu to be cheesed off that he thinks it is OK to be so critical in front of ds?
ds is fine. If I had thought he was not I would not have sent him.

Why didn't you strap it up before school?

Obviously without seeing it, it's hard to say but it does sound like more than your average injury for the before school club to offer to do something with it...so maybe the HT had a point?

I don't know.

blackcoffee · 26/03/2012 17:33

well I wanted to show them first.

Why though?

That's what I'm trying to get at. It doesn't sound like a 'little' injury if you didn't want to strap it yourself because you wanted to show it to them.

If you knew it was just a bruise, why would you bother?

I'm just trying to see it from the Head's POV because they're normally so hot on attendance, I'm thinking it must have been in a bit of a state if he thought your son shouldn't have been in school.

The before school club lady is a first aider, wanted to see if it checked out with what I thought and what others had said ... and to see if school was happy to take him. Apparently it swelled up later on.
Have no probs with picking him up, or not leaving him to begin with - it was more that the HT made these remarks in front of ds.

I think she had a point but agree she should not have said it it front of Ds. Hope he is feeling better now

MrsKittyFane · 26/03/2012 17:55

HT was exasperated that you hadn't had it looked at properly. Getting the breakfast club supervisor to look at it doesn't count.
HT obviously thought it was bad but should have said what he said out ouf your DS's earshot.

with hindsight I'd have done casualty first .. but all they did was strap it anyway, they said no need to keep off school and were fairly dismissive about the whole thing
thanks, he's feeling fine! but he was a bit upset about comment

How old is he?

blackcoffee · 26/03/2012 18:01

I did look at it! I thought it was bruised which hospital confirmed
I didn't think it warranted time off school
Maybe I was wrong, but I was acting in good faith

Ahh yes I can see why he might have felt is was a criticism of you if he's only 9.

Wait til he's older and he'll say, "Yeah I know Sir, it's out of order isn't it?" Grin

OriginalJamie · 26/03/2012 18:06

The HT probably shouldn't have implicitly criticised you in front of your son, so it's a bit annoying, but she's a human being.

blackcoffee · 26/03/2012 18:08
Grin I feel bad enough about having so little time with the dc as it is, so y over sensitive here thanks, you made me laugh!

human being, not sure ....
I'll send him tomorrow with instructions to call me at slightest problem, do you think that is reasonable? He's outside now with a football
