Was at the Ice Centre yesterday with DD and there was a huge cheerleading competition going on. Hundred of competitors and squads from all over the UK. It was not a pretty sight. Garish costumes, orange fake tan, bad make-up and ludicrously huge bows in the hair of girls ranging for about 5 to 18 plus. Anyone who lets their child take part in this "sport" should get their head examined.

Branleuse · 24/03/2014 14:46

Gordy

She reanimated it for what she feels is a good reason, nothing wrong with that

gordyslovesheep · 24/03/2014 15:28

Yes ..that's why ha deleted her spammy post

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 24/03/2014 15:36

I can't see a problem with it, it looks energetic, gets them moving and what the hell is wrong with lookin athletic and toned rather than just slim as you put it?

But then I do pole fitness so maybe I need my head examined too...oh wait, no I don't my mind is not that narrow.

Patchouli · 24/03/2014 15:37

Cheerleaders don't sit on the sidelines and "cheer the men" , they perform at halftime or before the game
Hmm

I can sort of see the argument for it, in the same way people are arguing that pole dancing is now a sport.
But it's not something I'd be encouraging my DD into.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 24/03/2014 15:38

That did make me giggle

Ericaequites · 24/03/2014 20:58

I'm an American who finds cheerleading very common and sexist. I am distressed such behavior has spread toEngland.

Cattyfaith · 30/05/2018 22:20

My DD is an All star cheerleader and it is more than what you described. Sure some of the teams (the tacky ones) have bad fake tan and the bows are customary and fun. The SPORT brings out confidence and fun in any child and although it may not be the right SPORT for everyone, it;s worth a try because you can say that any sport is just not right , like how my DD hates Tennis

TheShapeOfEwe · 30/05/2018 22:21

I don't see how it's any different to gymnastics or ballroom dancing tbh

TheShapeOfEwe · 30/05/2018 22:22

Argh zombie thread! Sorry everyone. I have no idea why people trawl old threads to bump them!
