AIBU or is my DS1? Would you elect an obvious 'working class' man as primeminster or leaser of the opposition?

Talking to DS1 about the budget (younger dc's not interested) and for some reason we got onto Ed Milliband. Anyhoo I said 'I keep forgetting Ed Milliband is labour, he looks and sounds like a conservative'

Long and short of it is DS1 thinks he wouldn't respect anyone to run the country unless they had a certain 'well-spoken' accent ???

Have a given birth to some sort of Neo-Nazi Capitalist or is this a common shared thought?

Unfortunately politics is now seen as a career move rather than a vocation.

I asked Ed Millipede this on the webchat but he ignored me. (and I voted for him, chuh) When are more grassroots political activists going to be encouraged to stand for parliament instead of the (IMO post Princess Tony) interchangeable suits and boots?

Tony Benn may be a rich old nutter, but he's a totally committed rich old nutter.

In my hometown there is a family of activists on the local council who even my far-to-the-right--of-Mrs-T mother votes for locally, because for generations they have devoted their free time to the community they live in. These are the people I want to see in parliament, not the latest Bullingdon or Bloomsbury intelligentsia offspring.
