They are all different heights and sizes, all different people, all different sports...

Football teams are all same gender, same level of fitness, same age roughly and hence a more uniform team...

Feel a bit 'meh' about the kit, as someone else said, nothing outstanding but 'it'll do'...

We can't fail to recognise them in those outfits, they all look like they got dressed during a jumble sale power cut.

Something that's always puzzled me - when and why was it decided that female track and field athletes should compete in a bra and knickers?

I think the original Greek Olympics were all done in the nude weren't they ?

I do think the kit is ugly, but so far as the photograph's shortcomings are concerned (including focus on genitalia, unless you see that as an asset rather than a shortcoming) I think most of it is down to people on a platform/stage being photographed from a much lower vantage point, which almost never looks good.

That does then raise the question of why they didn't have some decently well-posed and well-lit photographs to release to the media so that no one ended running snapshots like this, though.

Lunchboxes make me feel squirmy, but apart from that, it's fine. It's sports kit.

A pair of navy knickers and an Airtex shirt would have done rightly.

Elephants see my earlier link to the Grauniad. They have much better shots there.

The camera angle... classic Soviet technique used to depict workers in heroic poses that's seeped into wider culture. innit.

Those kits are awful, on half of them it doesn't even look anything like the union jack, just a random diagonal line through a load of blue! The only two kits I like are the swimming costume and the one the man on the far right is wearing. They actually look okay.

Athletes look a bit 'caught in the headlamps'. Apart from Ennis who is well practised at getting her bits and bobs out for the cameras.
