I'm thinking about doing something to raise money for our local Women's Aid, a charity very close to my heart. But, I'm stuck for ideas.

A sponsored walk would be too easy for myself. My friend is currently pushing the idea of a bungee jump, but I'm terrified of heights, falling, and the concept that the elastic may possibly snap

Another friend suggested a sponsored silence, but it doesn't feel like enough of a challenge for me.

If anyone has any suggestions, could you let me know please?

Complete imagination block today.

I think in all honesty the walk or the silence is best.

Yes it'll be boring, unimaginative and a bit crap for you...but the most important thing is you won't have to lay out any money that could have gone to the actual charity.

I get a bit pissed off with some people who do expensive things in the name of charity because they 'enjoy' doing them, rather then making the maximum amount of money if that makes sense?

Any half marathons round your way?

Three-legged walk?

Cooking against the clock - not only can people sponsor you per cake or whatever that you manage to make in an allotted time, but you could also sell them later.

Or you could hire a hall and invite paying guests for a charity dinner (for some reason chilli always seems to go down well).

Good for you! Smile

Some good ideas there sunshine

My only suggestion would be to do something that does not cost money and could potentially be a treat for you. I find it difficult when people ask me to sponser them to do something they could not otherwise afford to do as I see it as costing to do the activity and therefore not all the money raised will go to charity.

Is there anything you can make/services you can offer that people can buy? This is a really selfless way of raising money as people do not just have to sponser you, they get something in return.

I know this sounds really stingy, but I give to a number of charities and do not have spare cash to sponser people. I would however think it was great of someone to spend time and energy doing something rather than a one off event that did not take much forethought or effort. (I know bungee jumping seems like a big deal to you because you are scared but it is not going to take up much of your time)

Can you donate your time, either volunteering or collecting for the charity?

-Sponsored Cycle (100 miles, perhaps?)
-Sponsored Swim (24 miles, perhaps?)
-Mix of Walk/Cycle/Swim like the Triathlon? (200 miles all together, perhaps?)
-Sponsored Windsurf or other more extreme sport

Just a few ideas probably a bit rubbish but just some suggestions to play about with.

My Dad is doing a cycle from Lands End to Johner Groats which is 400 miles or more. He's doing it over 7 days. It's going to be really, really tough but he's raising it for charity and it sure isn't going to be easy.

Where about are you? DH owns a flying school that also does Aerobatic experiences if you're anywhere near Blackpool, I'm sure he'd be more than willing to wave the costs if you could muster up the balls to do it Grin it's great fun, and we've had quite a few people doing it for different charities.

Could you put an small event on like an afternoon tea that people pay for? Or maybe host a competition and people pay to enter?

Or a quiz?

FrothyDragon · 21/03/2012 23:59

I'm down in Norfolk, Bangtastic. Otherwise, I'd definitely consider having a go...

Hmm, a sponsored cycle is another possibility. I'm not a strong swimmer, think I'd struggle with a mile, let alone 24.

Quiz is another possibility, could possibly put it on in the student union.
