To keep hitting and shaking DH in his sleep

Kayano · 21/03/2012 04:29

The man is massive and sleeps like a log. The alarm often doesn't wake him and it takes 2 alarms and a good shake every 5 minutes to get him to shift.

He is well over 6 foot and has taken to shimmying down the bed in his sleep. There is a chest of drawers at bottom of bed that his feet end up touching, thus blocking my path if I need to feed the baby or go to the loo. I have to try and lift his (very heavy) legs, or do some extreme limbo

He is very Sheldon Cooper 'spot' like about his side of the bed though so if he does swap sides he moans and moves over in his sleep, sticks his arse on my side etc...

So I took to slapping his legs. Woke him up just enough to stir and pull his legs up and he even muttered sorry. So now I feel bad because I am continually slapping him! I'm just so tired with a 4 week old baby And I wake up with his numerous alarms I can't be chewed to gently shake the man awake for up to 15 minutes etc...

Nb/ this is like my only issue. He does weekend night feeds
But I still wake to get him to wake iyswim which is annoying even though he means well lol and he does all the bottle sterilising and once awake actually does more housework than me. Eek

What else can I do to wake him?

Oooh I wonder if your DH and mine are related? I can't think of much else you could do - I take it he's always been a very heavy sleeper, not just since babytime started?

To be serious for a minute, we moved out on each other for the extreme baby phase, not all nights but some, just so we could both could have as decent an amount of sleep as possible.

PinkFondantFancy · 21/03/2012 05:42

Can't you climb over his legs?

PinkFondantFancy · 21/03/2012 05:43

As in climb over on the bed rather than in the gap between the bed and the chest of drawers

Rollersara · 21/03/2012 05:55

I have a similar issue, but with DP snoring, which he only does when lying on his back so I wake him so he turns over. I do feel bad, but he is literally asleep again in minutes. Wish DD was the same!

rogersmellyonthetelly · 21/03/2012 06:46

Yanbu mine snores like a felled ox and the bloody dog does too. I can't reach the dogs cage but I do nudge and kick dh (gently at first) to get him to move a bit until he stops snoring!

JustHecate · 21/03/2012 06:54

Agree. Climb over him.

Or rearrange the bedroom.

Shutupanddrive · 21/03/2012 07:16

Have you got a spare room? Send him in there a few nights a week so you can get some sleep, I would

Kayano · 21/03/2012 11:55

We just got a new bed that's quite high so although I have climbed over him/ his legs before I don't want to again Blush

And I can't
Rearrange the bedroom as its very small and we already struggle
To have all out stuff in . Stupid sloped wall

can you move the bed around so that you are nearer to the door

squeakytoy · 21/03/2012 11:57

ah, cross posts... maybe take the chest of drawers out then for the time being?

BeeBread · 21/03/2012 11:57

Would you feel less bad about tickling his feet?

Kayano · 21/03/2012 11:58

I'll just keep whacking him Blush it's
Actually quite therapeutic and he does go
Straight back to sleep. I have to tell him that I do this as he has no recollection at all.

I slapped his bum last night to he him to shift along, he did and told me to fuck off Shock but no idea this happened this morning

I have a very snory DP, it's driving me up the wall. I spend the whole night shaking him and telling him to lie on his side, then getting cross waiting for him to lie on his back again, so no sleep for me.Angry
Might have to look at some treatment for him as I don't want to sleep in separate beds, I'm too scared Blush

blackteaplease · 21/03/2012 12:06

You need to sort this out because if you are unlucky your child will still be waking in the night at 2 years old like mine. Are you goingto carry on hitting your dh to enable you to get out of the bed forever?

Can you sleep in seperate rooms for a bit till the night waking calms down (hopefully), or rearrange the room?

Kayano · 21/03/2012 12:23

It's not too bad ATM as she is in a very sleepy stage. He does last feed and puts her down and weekends so I get sleep but I still wake up to get him up so it's still broken...

He doesn't snore so I'm not sure what anyone could do.

Will have to have a few sofa nights and keep saving for a bigger house. Just got the two rooms at the minute. I could sleep in the feeding chair but I would worry about waking the baby.

(she is in her own room as I sleep so lightly now I was getting anxious at every single peep/ squeak)
