So many Olympic miseries!!!

I love the Olympics and how many times will we get the Olympics in the UK in our lifetime? Once? Twice? It's a thing to be excited about :D

The torch route: watching the news today and there are loads of inspirational people carrying the torch. I watched a piece on a man with learning difficulties from the NE who had been selected and he was so proud and happy. He spends his time campaigning for equal rights for the disabled. It was a good piece and highlighted his cause and it was great to see all the stories from our region especially.

The games. I totally admit to planning my first baby (currently sleeping on me) so I could have Mat leave during the games and the Paralympics. I can't be there but I enjoy the passion of the games, both the spectators and the athletes and I love watching sports I have never seen before! I never watch weightlifting etc irl but you learn loads just watching.

I have even bought the baby a team GB tshirt and hoodie to wear when we have time to watch!

There are so many 'boo hiss the Olympics the roads will be busy i want to leave the country' threads I just thought I would post how excited and OTT I am

So AIBU (I know I am really but I still can't wait!)

Grin I was beginning to think I was the only one!!! So glad I'm not. I might go see the torch but when I was planning the Maternity leave around the Olympics I did sort of forget the fact I would have to also look after the subsequent child Wink

We are all supremely excited over here too! I adore any and all things Olympic, always have. We were lucky enough to get a few tickets and I can't wait for the buzz of London... My DBro who lives in Vancouver said that the 2010 Winter Games was one of the best experiences of his life

GetDownNesbitt · 19/03/2012 21:04

Don't gettoo excited - it is scheduled to pass my school, at which point the torch will be grabbed from the bearer and borne quickly to the local scrapyard where it will be melted down and the profits spent on spliffs.

YANBU, I love the Olympics and spent 3 weeks in Athens in 2004 and saw 3 british gold medals. Gutted I didn't get tickets thus time but it has worked out well as dc 2 is due on 30th July. Ds has requested I have baby on time so he can have paternity leave during the games (also so he doesn't have to commute to London)) but has told me if I'm in labour during the 100m final then I'm on my own!!! Really lucky my first day of mat leave is when the torch goes past the end of our road!!!

Bring On the games!!!!

troisgarcons · 19/03/2012 21:29

Well, you have be bouyed up really - its a once in a lifetime thing

I cant wait - I really cant...wellI 'll have to obviously.

Its a bloody marvellous year, Olympics and jubilee and if we are really lucky a Royal Baby announced Smile

Piffpaffpoff · 19/03/2012 21:38

The torch is going within a mile of my house, I am ridiculously excited by this. I will be taking the DCs to see it.

PanicMode · 19/03/2012 21:47

YANBU - I have a place in the Olympic Park Run so will be running around the Olympic Village and running down the final straight IN THE STADIUM in two weeks time!!

And then I'm going to the xc of the 3 day eventing with my daughter in July - I am beyond excited about that too - as well as having the torch go through our town, being able to watch hours of the footage because I'm a SAHM and the children will have to fend for themselves for a couple of weeks Wink.
