Title says it all.

Waste of time and money.

Ah, x post. I'd be proud if I knew someone doing it too. Good on her.

Angelico · 19/03/2012 19:47

I soooooo don't get it. The whole thing. Big fat who cares.

sillymillyb · 19/03/2012 19:51

I care.... its going through my local village and because I live just off the high street I know I won't be able to get parked outside my own house. I am already grumpy about this!!

On the other hand, I quite fancy a street party

The actual torchy thing, I don't give a shit about though :)

landofsoapandglory · 19/03/2012 19:52

I'm taking DS2 out of school at lunch to see it. I doubt he'll get another chance.

BobblyGussets · 19/03/2012 19:55

I can hardly contain my indifference. I am hoping to be out of the country when the Union Carbide Olympics is on.

Anyone remember Bhopal?

WetAugust · 19/03/2012 19:56

Yes, I do. The great dioxin scandal.

The poor survivors got sweet fa and still suffering the consequences.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 19/03/2012 21:30

See this

stressheaderic · 19/03/2012 21:36

I am completely indifferent about the Olympics. However, I've just looked and it's coming right past my house and past DD's nursery. I might just feign a passing interest on that day, for DD's sake obv.

JosieZ · 20/03/2012 04:06

What a bunch of bluddy miseries.

I'm not into athletics but at least they are trying their best to be inclusive - giving as much weight to the Special Olympics and ensuring the torch passes 10 miles from every Uk resident.

Remember all those empty stadiums in Beijing? Remember the pretty girl mouthing the words of the opening song?

Everyone is desperate for tickets here. It's a once in a lifetime event - why be apathetic when you and your kids could be looking forward to an exciting, memorable event.

JosieZ · 20/03/2012 04:08

And what the feck has it to do with Bopal? That was an American owned company in India for fecks sake.

valiumredhead · 20/03/2012 08:34

josie because of the olympics my family won't be getting a holiday this summer and dh will be working every weekend so excuse me while I am apathetic.

OneHandFlapping · 20/03/2012 08:43

YANBU. It's a complete waste of money.

In fact the whole Olympics is a mammoth waste of money. I'd like to see the business case for the whole exercise!

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 20/03/2012 08:57

The Olympic torch is going on a route to see the whole of the country and showcase it to the rest of the world. It seeks to involve the whole country in the spirit of the games.

This means visiting Tesco. Lots.

Nuff said.

DerbysKangaskhan · 20/03/2012 09:36

I'm a little annoyed by it actually originally it sounded like it would stop in the City Centre for the evening celebration to include everyone, but the list shows it mostly going through the posh parts of the city and ending in a park that is very difficult to get to if you don't live near-by (little parking or public transport to that area) in a vair posh part of the city. I feel like us normal muggins are being left out again-- to give the rich a party.

pengymum · 20/03/2012 10:07

JosieZ:

Dow Chemicals acquired Union Carbide - the company responsible for the Bhopal Disaster and have refused to deal with the unresolved legal and moral liabilities in Bhopal as they say they did not own Union Carbide at the time of the disaster.

They are sponsors of the Olympics and why the issue was raised. Some people are of the opinion that acquiring a company means taking over their assets AND liabilities, others have different views.

YABU.

I have two friends that will be carrying the flame, one is tetraplegic and heroes a huge amount for other people, and the other is a young adult who is autistic. It will be amazing for both of them, and I am very happy that their contribution to society is being recognised in this way.

I also know another two disabled people who will be involved in the cultural Olympics things that will be happening in the places where the flame stays overnight. Ds's class is going to be involved in that too.

I'm not even going to the Olympics, and I think it's things like this that give people like me a chance to get involved and enjoy the spectacle that is the Olympics, even without buying tickets. There are some people that will complain no matter what. Just make the best of it FFS, stop moaning! If you are too grouchy to make the effort to take from it all what you can, then stop complaining about every little thing you can think of to do with the Olympics and let the rest of us celebrate.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 20/03/2012 11:10

Well said Outraged.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 20/03/2012 11:12

Thank you! Except I meant 'he does' instead of heroes, auto correct is at it again. As it happens though, that guy is a personal hero of mine, and I am very proud to know him.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2012 11:13

I don't give a shiny shite about the Olympics. Sorry. Does that make me a bad person?

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2012 11:15

But if anyone else loves it that's fine BTW I imagine the DCs will be watching with interest and want to see the torch when it comes through town.. Grin

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/03/2012 11:16

Hey JosieZ. Get yourself over here !

mummynoseynora · 20/03/2012 11:20

well I personally don't give too hoots about the olympics / athletics in general... however

my husband has been selected as a torchbearer - he loves it all and it really is a dream come true for him, he will also be carrying the torch the day after his birthday. Therefore I am over the moon for him!

I have explained to DD (5) about it and she is SERIOUSLY excited for daddy and can't wait to watch etc. I will be encouraging her (and her little brother) to take part in and be excited about a national event where our little country is the focus of the world for a little while - even if I don't peronsally give a crap about the actual sports!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 20/03/2012 11:21

Congratulations to your DH noseynora. Smile

Cherriesarelovely · 20/03/2012 11:22

I love sports, participating myself and helping others get fit. I think that the Olympic values are really inspiring, not just for encouraging people in sporting endeavours but for life generally. In the rural comunity where I work the children and families have been so inspired by the Olympics that over 100 of us have made fitness pledges for the year ahead and I'm organising events to help people to keep them. What is not to like about people feeling inspired to get fit? How lovely that people have been asked to carry the flame because they have made a contribution to our communities.
