To think that he could keep the dog off the furniture

Ok bit of a rant! went over to see my mum and my step dad had their black lab on the sofa. When she jumped down it was clear to see she was in season and had left a little trail on the sofa. My eight year old little boy then asked in a very loud voice "Mummy why is Jess Bleeding". I did explain to him why when we left the house. My mum battles to keep the house clean anyway but surely to god can he not let the dog stay on the floor? Is he being unreasonable or shall I just shut up... Im just so glad we didnt actually get to sit on the sofa! ; 0 (

Meh! It's their house. Mine has just finished bleeding all over my sofas so I am probably biased. It washes off (well it does off of leather sofas anyway).

I also have an 8 year old, who asked and was told about seasons, explained that they are like periods but for dogs and that the dog would spayed soon so it wouldn't happen again etc.

Explaining to the four year old why the male dog was 'bouncing on the little dog' all the time was more, un, interesting

It's their house, their dog, their sofa. My dog and cat sleep in our beds. I like it like that, they are perfect, furry hot water bottles that never go cold. And are lovely to cuddle.

And I'm not getting the problem with explaining a dog's season to an 8 year old.

I have nothing against dogs but my mum has just gone out and brought new sofas and luckily covered them with big throws. I just think that furniture is for people and at least you can mop the floor! Mind you he does prefer dogs to people so that could be why as well. I think I explained it to my son very well and he wasnt too scared! ha ha

It's gross to have to sit on chairs where a dog's anus has been.

cuteboots · 19/03/2012 17:40

Stratters- I would rather he didnt get covered in it though. I have no problems with explaining it to him.

Rule Brittania-my thoughts exactly

I'm guessing rulebrittania won't be coming to breakfast any time soon

shoos cat from table and puts lid back on butter ;)

Their house, their rules really!

I prefer the Bottom of my Dog to the bottom of many people I've allowed to sit on my sofa.

LOL at dog anus on the chair!

RuleBritannia · 19/03/2012 17:54

When people sit on chairs, they are wearing clothes (I hope). A dog does not wear pants.

When people sit on toilets, they have their anuses over a hole ready to receive any emission. They then wipe their bottoms and pull their pants and trousers up or skirts down again.

crashdoll · 19/03/2012 17:56

How big do you think dog's anuses are? Confused

It's their house. None of your business. Don't sit on the sofa if you don't want to, the dogs lives there, you don't.

That might sound harsh, but it's true.

YABU.

wildfig · 19/03/2012 18:48

I'm looking at my dogs on their the sofa. Their anuses are completely covered by their tails and don't, as far as I can see, come into contact with the throw - which gets washed every other day. Their paws are definitely on the sofa, but then so were my boots about five minutes ago.

It's a bit grim to let the dog bleed on the sofa, but then again, she's in season and is probably feeling very sorry for herself. Turfing her off would be mean if she's used to being allowed up there - it's only for a week or so. Or you could send her a pair of these, as one woman to another...

Snazzy pants

TheMonster · 19/03/2012 18:50

If they normally let the dog up, they wouldn't be able to suddenly ban it when it is season. Their house, their rules, I'm afraid, even if you don't like it,

FWIW, I wouldn't like it. When DP and I got together he had a bitch and I hated it when she went into season. I soon had her down to the vet...

You don't want to know what goes on on my sofa when the DCs are away , but we collapsed our old one at one end and now have nice sturdy leather ones which DH's knees keep slipping off Grin
