To think it ridiculous that wolf-whistling could become a criminal offence?

This is stupid IMO. I don't want to live in a society where men are afraid to approach or talk to women for fear of being arrested.

It's good to see that plenty of Guardian readers agree that it is ridiculous.

It's scary to me that we seem to be becoming a more and more repressive country as regards to human contact and communication. I don't understand the purpose of it.

".. Former attorney general Baroness Scotland, who worked on the convention for four years under the Labour government .."

and we all know how tenuous was her grasp of even basic law.

Useless waste of space.

Has anyone else noticed that the same posters turn up on every thread like this to support blatant sexism or racism, telling everyone else that they should just get over themselves and accept people's right to insult them?

There is no conclusion to draw other than those posters are sexist and racist themselves and want to protect themselves and others like them, from any penalties their attitudes and behaviour will incur.

sternface - I haven't even noticed it in this thread tbh

I've only noticed 2 posters who like whistles and I haven't seen them on any similar threads (that I can recall)

Everyine else seems to have noticed that it is a silly thread as the title is totally inaccurate and diverts attention from what these laws are actually about and have either posted to that effect or posted something light hearted.

I am not sure either of those things equate to supporting blatant sexism, and certainly not to supporting blatant racism. Bit of an odd conclusion to draw.
