To find it perplexing when people go abroad on holiday...

...only to treat their FB friends to a blow by blow daily account of holiday-related statuses, photos and videos?

Maybe it's just me but when I'm on holiday I prefer to spend time doing other things rather than uploading things to Facebook.

I agree. But then I am old gimmer who doesn't really get Face Book anyway.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 19/03/2012 14:24

One person on my friends list recently went to the canaries. We were treated with statuses and photos at the airport prior to departure, photos of them all on the plane ready for take off, photos of baggage reclaim at the other end, constant holiday photos and statuses. I can't understand what's wrong with just uploading their photo albums once they get home.

I was out the other day with my best friend and her Mum, we were having such a good time I certainly didn't have time to take photos or update my status on facebook or tag them etc...
It then occurred to me that most people that do that are probably bored and not having such a good time as they would have you believe!

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 19/03/2012 14:27

My thoughts exactly, gallifrey!

I don't mind really - if you're sitting waiting around or whatever & have your phone, it's so easy & quick to post status updates / photos etc.

Hammy02 · 19/03/2012 14:29

YANBU. When I go on holiday, my mobile goes in the safe for the week. I always leave hotel contact details with family so if there's an emergency, I can be contacted that way.

bibbityisaporker · 19/03/2012 14:29

Yes, I find it incredibly difficult to understand why people post this kind of trivia all the time on Facebook and Twitter. Status update from one of my "friends" the other week was that she was at a cinema waiting for the film to begin. And ???

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 19/03/2012 14:30

Said friend that went to the canary islands does the cinema thing too and checks in at places all the time; Tesco, the gym, the school, the shower, everything.

Yeah I'm with you lot too. I post a FB status maybe once every week or two when there is something of reasonable significance going on but people posting every little bit of info about their day is just weird - let alone the posting for meals out and holidays etc - if it's all so great then enjoy it don't be telling us all about it!

Hammy02 · 19/03/2012 14:33

If someone is genuinely enjoying themselves, surely they'd forget about Facebook etc. Or am I too an old gimmer?!

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 19/03/2012 14:33

Another friend puts photos on whenever she buys anything. Whether it's clothes for the kids or her, furniture, a car, gadgets, whatever.

It's the 21st century equivalent of making visitors sit through your holiday slide show!

YANBU.

Ditto blow by blow accounts of supposedly fabulous TV programmes they are watching.

If it's so good, then just watch the fucking thing.

Francagoestohollywood · 19/03/2012 14:40

YANBU. But I am afraid that's more or less much of what Facebook is about. You exist because you post.
