To ask neighbours to stop smoking right under my flippin window

I live in a flat and just had very young neighbours move in with a very young baby all they seem to do is puff away on fags all day im the first floor and they are underneath me and today suns out and they are standing directly under my window chuffing away making my home reek. They smoke in their home which isnt illegal but this also makes my flat reek. It drifts everywhere.

Im not against smoking and am partial to one from time to time but wouldn't stand right under someones window and smoke If I ever have one I go away from peoples windows. It just seem so bloody inconsiderate. Im going to ring my HA but this girl is really starting to piss me off already ive gone from having a right misrable old git living below me and I couldn't even fart with out him moaning at me now I have inconsiderate numpties living below. I was really hoping for nice neighbours I think I deserve it after the weirdow I had living below and Ive gone from bad to worse. Be careful what you wish for I guess! I know people put up with worse I fear it is going to get worse though :-(

No smokes in her property and outside it everywhere it seems when I came out one day there was an ashtray on window sill in babies room. sigh.

To all the op who said not a problem about the rubbish being left out for HA we pay a service charge for this & there are residents who own their properties who have to pay a lot more than we do in service charge and when they have to clear up other peoples rubbish the owners get charged even more on top of that, hence why I always clear up after myself. Someone pays somewhere along the line.

she might have left it there by accident maybe? I left an ashtray in the toilet once because I was moving it from the hallway and got side tracked by needing a wee Blush. If not and she does smoke in the babies room, that is pretty grim and not most peoples choice Id expect but still, her decision and all that.

Maybe join her outside for a ciggie one day and mention that when you have a cig you stand a bit further away because you notice it wafts into your house and hope she gets the hint and does the same?

HairyLemon · 19/03/2012 15:45

The rubbish was being collected anyway because you rang them. Waste of money and fuel if they have to come twice to the same house. No harm done by her shoving a TV unit with all the other crap really is there?

Have a quiet word with her before you ring the HA. She probably doesn't realise how much second hand smoke drifts up to you. As for smoking near the baby, it's not nice but it's not really your business.

I'd hate to be forced to live above or near such selfish chavs. You have my sympathy.

YonWhaleFish · 19/03/2012 16:59

Little I think that's a bit unfair at this moment - unless OP asks and gets refused their polite request you can't call them names!

Debsbear · 19/03/2012 16:59

And of course, if all else fails, there's always the option of a bucket of water thrown out of the window [grins]
