I know I will probably be flamed for this and I don't mean to be inflammatory but why when you state an opinion does everyone jump down your throat? Sorry for lack of paragraphs I am on my phone

OP posts:
FatherHankTree · 18/03/2012 23:20

Unless you spout offensive rantings, then no, people don't jump down your throat

ABatInBunkFive · 18/03/2012 23:20

You are always going to get more than one reply to something, well when i say always i mean most of the time when you say something daft, cos well there is more than one person looking in at a time.

offensive or nasty

Urbandecayed81 · 18/03/2012 23:21

Yes I am maryz and I apologised to the op and I started another thread because it was playing on my mind

OP posts:
TapirBackRider · 18/03/2012 23:22

A thread about a thread may be bad form, but the OP did state she is a newbie, and may not have absorbed the MN Rules.

OP - there are loads of posters here; some will agree with your opinion, some will disagree, some will correct your spelling or grammar, etc.

No two days here are ever the same.

TheFallenMadonna · 18/03/2012 23:22

You said something daft and were called on it? You live and learn.

Starting a thread about it though... Bit daft.

Urbandecayed81 · 18/03/2012 23:23

Thank you tapir I haven't a clue about the rules etc I guess I will learn in time

OP posts:
BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 18/03/2012 23:23

urban

as a newbie, it can be hard to understand MN.

Lurk a bit.

Learn which topics to hide.

Decide which topics interest you.

Understand that when debating, not everyone is going to agree with your opinion and some of the many members of MN are going to be nobbers, but ultimately there are some bloody fab people here.

Join in.

Enjoy.

Don't start inflammatory posts on AIBU - it never ends well.

Oh and, I find people who come back and say "I thought xyz, but now I can see another perspective" generally get treated with respect. People who come here and call us or tout 'pack mentality' generally get a gobfull of vitriol.

It is fab here, just lurk and learn - trust me, I did. Grin

twelveinchesmyfoot · 18/03/2012 23:24

If there are loads of posters here, I would like to know why, although there are apparently zillions of mumsnetters, it is always the same flipping twenty-odd names that keep cropping up and telling people what to do.

PS, I am not a newbie, but have name changed, as I am fully aware of the shit that could be about to hit the fan.

What pregnant thread Maryz?

I need to know...I have a nosey condition known as nosiness

I also have a bag of Haribos and a glass of Wine that I might be willing to share Grin

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 18/03/2012 23:27

it is always the same flipping twenty-odd names that keep cropping up and telling people what to do.

I may be 'known' but I don't think I tell people what to do, I'm just a MN addict Blush

I realise I am only 'known' because I have stolen the name of a famous person Grin

WorraLiberty · 18/03/2012 23:28

It could also be something to do with the word 'cox' Grin

TapirBackRider · 18/03/2012 23:28

OP - BrianCox ^^ has posted a good guide; I've been on other forums, and none are like Mnet, which is a decidedly good thing!

Lurk, post, enjoy.

(Oh and have you found the Classics section yet? There are some completely brilliant threads there)

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 18/03/2012 23:28

I want Haribos!!!!!

Sad

Don't judge me but I have drank my Cava bought for Mother's Day and i have work in the morning and I may have had a drink last night

Oh, there's no hope

BackforGood · 18/03/2012 23:30

Well, as you're a newbie, we'll explain....

Someone makes a statement about what they have done / are thinking of doing / or think, and ask thousands of other posters if they think that is reasonable or not. (Keep in mind, the very fact they are asking for verification, says a lot in itself)

Thousands of random people then read the title, and, depending on that, either open the thread or not. Some who open it read the OP and close it. Some respond to the OP and some read the whole thread and join in the discussion.

At the end of the day though, the question is being asked "AIBU?" So the answer is going to be 'Yes' or 'No' which means that a lot of posters are going to be saying the same thing. Personally I wouldn't call that a pack mentality though. You often get posters posting and saying they are going to offer their opinion which goes completely against the grain.

TapirBackRider · 18/03/2012 23:30

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 18/03/2012 23:30

I reckon you're alright though OP - you seem to have stumbled in and commented at a time when we have had a LOT of shit thrown at us Thanks < offers peace I'm just too fucking good me

BackforGood · 18/03/2012 23:30

doh - x=posted with about 2 pages Grin

WorraLiberty · 18/03/2012 23:31

Then tell me which pregnant thread and you shall have the yellow one a Haribo of your choice! Grin

I was all set to judge then cos I misread you and thought you'd drank the cava you bought for your Mum for Mother's Day.

Fecklessdizzy · 18/03/2012 23:31

Actually, it's quite theraputic, in a warped sort of way, to have the entire interweb-thingy telling you not to be an arse ... Wink

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 18/03/2012 23:31
