AIBU to now be worried

I have posted twice about my swollen and tender breasts and no one has replied so I'm now a tad concerned; I should be worrying?

I am 46 but been on HRT for 6 years. A week or so ago both breasts suddenly started to swell up and both are sore and tender in the same places. I can't feel any lumps and the GP says he has no idea what's up but it isn't likely to be serious as both are sore.

But given I've posted twice on here and not got a single reply, it seems this isn't common and as such AIBU to start worrying?

As both breast are swollen and tender I would be inclined to think this is hormone related.

For added peace of mind ask your GP to refer you to a specialist.

Return to your GP, say you are concerned and ask for a referral to the breast clinic, where they will most likely do an examination, a mammogram and/or an ultrasound.

I've had breast cancer, and did not have pain in my breast, and the affected breast looked very different form the unaffected one. Also the change was gradual not sudden.

It sounds as if your GP is not worried, and you should take comfort from that. But you are worried and you are entitled to further checks that will set your mind at rest. Smile

Oh Teahouse, apologies, i did see your threads and meant to post, but got distracted by RL..

I too had the same as you (for 9 weeks), and am 48.. Are yours' particularly sore at the sides leading up towards your armpits? My GP reassured me that seeing as it was in both sides it was extremely unlikely to be what you (and i) were/are thinking about.

I actually had slightly swollen glands in my armpits, and was tested for various things including Glandular fever - i was clear.. so the most likely cause in my case is either 8 weeks of fighting different viruses, or hormone related...

I'm sure i've read many posts relating to reports of sore swollen boobs in the menopausal threads.
HTH a bit, but if you're still concerned go back to your GP for a referral.

From what you have reported it is very unlikely to be anything sinister.

Hope that helps. If you are still worried, and I think you will be regardless of what anyone says on here, then you could go back to your GP for another chat.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 18/03/2012 23:46

If both your breasts are sore, it is very unlikely to be sinister. If you are worrying and it's uncomfortable for you, go back to the doctor or ask to see another one.

ImperialBlether · 18/03/2012 23:47

You need to ask your doctor to refer you. He doesn't know what's up, so he should send you to an expert.

It sounds a lot less suspicious if both are swollen and sore, but you really need to get checked out quickly for your own peace of mind.

I hope everything goes well; it must be a terrible worry.

Thanks folks - esp Jellykat - it's useful to know I'm not alone.
I don't have anything in my armpits but recently had a really nasty fluey-cold so maybe it's a virus hangover.

I will go back to the GP is it doesn't go soon - 9 weeks is a while to wait.
Reassured - thanks tons
