...in a pile of baby clothes and weep at how much other people and myself have spent on them, only for them to be bagged up and put up the loft.. :(

He must have worn everything once. If that even! I might send it all to 'Save the Children'

eBay it or charity shop if you don't need the money. Unless you're saving it all for subsequent children or family members, obviously.

DH has been tidying our loft and has found a giant box of baby clothes which has made me very sentimental and nostalgic. Have I mentioned DCs are 24 and 21?

Sirzy · 17/03/2012 18:02

It's always the way with tiny sizes, Ds had way to many clothes then. It's taken us to him being 2.4 to get the amount he needs right!

Give them to charity or eBay. Even if your planning on having more just keep what you know will be used

McHappyPants2012 · 17/03/2012 18:03

I don't get sentimental over baby clothes, once grown out of them I off load the lot

LST · 17/03/2012 18:04

I do have a friend expecting in April but they don't know if it's a boy or girl so I don't know if they'll want any of it yet. I do want to save it for another child but you just know its won't need blue things lol.

He's only 19 weeks and he's nearly outgoing his 6-9 month clothes now!! I might make his babygros out of old curtains!!

You are going to find them very cute when he is a 16 yr old with huge smelly feet. I suggest saving a couple of pieces.

LST · 17/03/2012 18:08

I must admit I did get a tad sentimental just. He's grow so bloody quickly Sad

It gets worse before it gets better. I have two daughters and we had 34 DRESSES in age 1 to 2, never mind all the other clothes.

LST · 17/03/2012 18:18

Omg! I think he's got about 24 pairs of jeans! ( some were given to us though )

I found someone who is part of a team who collect/ sort/ pack and send goods to orphanages and hospitals. Our clothing goes there now. My kids might have only worn them once or twice but I think they'll be worn until they fall apart from now on.

Familyguyfan · 17/03/2012 18:31

Hi all, a friend of mine was a manager of a charity shop which shall remain nameless. She told me that some (I don't know if it's a widespread thing) charity shops simply bag up baby clothes and send them off to recycling centres to be weighed and paid a minimal amount for. The only exceptions were the really nice outfits.

I don't know how widespread this was but I tend to pass clothes along to friends or give to women's refuges, unless anyone has any better ideas.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 17/03/2012 20:24

Familyguyfan - I worked in a charity shop and it's true that some clothes are bagged and sent to recycling but thats if they're totally unsaleable - heavily stained/ holes etc. nice outfits are hangered and sold for fair price and generic babygrows/vests or ok condition things are usually put in a box for people to rummage and are normally 4 for £1 or something similar.
Charity shops cannot sell everything they're given because some things no one would buy but the ones that I know of recycle or donate the unusable to fabric recycling or similar.
