to think I'm being a bit fucked over?

The company I've worked for for 8 years were taken over about 6 months ago. Some people have been put at risk of redundancies, which we obviously knew would happen - but nobody from my department, as yet.

A year ago, I got an internal promotion, and was really excited about the new role... but over the last few months it's really turned to shit, and I've started to get the dread when I go in in the morning, which is something that I can't handle at all.

So I had a one to one with my manager today, regarding new contract etc for the new company - and my job title has changed. It's not what I do, and it's not what is on my email signature.

When my new contract comes through, I think it's going to say something along the lines of helping out in the department that's mentioned in my new title, when needed.... and I don't want to. I used to work in the department that's mentioned in my new job title, but it was a long time ago, and I really don't want to take several steps backwards. I hate the idea of coming in every morning and not knowing where I'll be working that day.

Is this legal? If I refuse to sign the contract, if it says what I think it will, where do I stand? One of my colleagues has said that if I refuse to sign, I will be put at risk of redunancy.

I'm sorry for the vagueness - I just understandably don't want to be outed. And I'm also sorry to put this in AIBU Grin I just need some broad opinions.

Is your paying staying the same is? You can put whatever job title you like on your cv as long as you correctly describe the role you are doing. It's not really an issue is it?

It's not the title - I don't care about that. It's the implication that I can be moved back to a team that I left years ago. I've moved twice since then, and it's a massive step back.

I want the job that I interviewed for and accepted! But I know, from what's been going on for the last few months, that I'm likely to be moved whenever they're short in other departments.

Oh, sorry, yes my pay, hours and benefits stay the same.

I know it sounds like I'm being petty - but my job is important to me. If I get the same salary, a lot of people would imagine it doesn't matter what job I do to earn it, but it matters to me.

My advice would be to get legal advice! And possibly prepare for being made redundant :( You don't sound petty at all, I would be livid if that happened to me.

Off the top of my head, just don't sign the contract and ask if they've given you the wrong details, since the job described isn't the one you do. That's an incredibly disrespectful way to treat someone :(

Get legal advice, may be a constructive dismissal angle.
