to wait and see if I can get away without paying?

Booked flights and hotel a couple of weeks (ish) ago for Easter hols, have confirmed the booking in triplicate and company are 100% positive they have received payment but it definitely hasn't left my account. They suggest I contact my bank if I am worried but otherwise not to worry as the booking is definitely secure and firm and paid for as far as they are concerned.

Would you wait and see or would you contact the bank? I like the idea of a free holiday, had a free stay in Novotel in Genoa once before as result of similar glitch. Or is it sort of stealing? Confused

It's only five or six days in Rome on a shoestring but on my income I would definitely notice, plus I did ask the bank to double check for me and they could find no record of it at all.

I only have one debit card for that account with that bank but I do keep wondering/worrying if I put the wrong number in somehow but surely would have tripped up doing the verified by visa thing, and the billing address wouldn't match and so on.

Life is so much like monopoly isn't it, bank error in your favour, collect free city break. It could be a good idea to write to them though. I've never heard of this happening before, except for the time Novotel forgot to charge. They had the card details, they just didn't take the money.

starting to feel tempted to splurge the untaken £££ on stuff, it is a bit frustrating really, I wonder if I should send a pen and paper type letter (as if that is more real than email) to the agent?

THere is no chance you made a payment to hold the booking (using another card) before confirming the booking at another date (and planned to pay with your main card).
Last year I booked flights with an airline which allowed you to hold them for a couple of days by paying a small fee. (using my debit card for this) Went back 2 days later to make the main payment and although I gave my credit card details, they put the payment through on my debit card..realised when I checked my balance to find I had a payment of £ 3000 pending. Any chance the same kind of thing could have happened?

oh no, definitely not a different card, I only have one active Visa debit card and it's all I use - annoyingly they won't, for security details, quote even part of the card number in correspondence but I keep wondering if it has come out of someone else's account but how is that possible, really?

it is all very mysterious, I wonder how long I need to leave the money there or when I can start to relax?

is it all one one booking or are the flights and hotel separate?

MightyNice · 19/03/2012 21:04

It is all one I think, I was just looking for flights and as I was booking those there was a 'and book a hotel for some% discount' so it all got paid (theoretically) in one go, except for the ?3 a night each tourist tax thing to pay when we check out, that's all it says is left to pay, everything else paid in full and non-refundable

finally they believe me!

"We have been made aware by our finance team only recently that at the time youwere making your booking there had been a technical glitch with our system andas a result the authorization of the payment had been reversed and we did notcharge your card for the above booking."

oh well, was getting used to idea of free holiday
