to think differently about Dh because of John Terry?

vodkalorange · 14/03/2012 21:50

We have had another huge row about John Fucking Terry.

Dh thinks that what he has done in his personal life is seperate from his professional life. Fine.

When I asked how he thought it would be covered if a female athlete had done what JT has done he said 'it was different'.

We somehow had a row about Paula Radcliffe and how female athletes having returned to sport after having a baby is percieved, possibly held against how a male athlete who hasn't participated due to injury is seen.

We had a huge row when he said maybe JT's wife "couldn't do better", and he's stomped off now.

It's all part of the same dialogue. I am Not Valuable because what I do doesn't command respect nor is lucrative. I am Kept - it is my (thankless), task to produce functional WORTHY (male), human beings, grist to the mill, yet because I am unwaged I am of no value. John Terry's wife 'should have' left him and didn't - because she's indoctrinated, as are we all. He has value and everything he does is excusable because fine he's a cock but HE CAN STILL KICK A BALL and earn 60 grand a week. Nobody would've 'judged' her for leaving apart - really? Have you tried telling someone you want to leave YOUR marriage? What about the children! It's the woman's JOB to put up and shut up because she should be grateful and she has no value - 'self respect' is cold comfort when there is no support.

She might be getting old! Looking old! A capital crime! Perhaps she isn't APPEALING enough! SHE should 'fight' for her marriage. Because she has no value.

Some young female athletes were on Jonathan Ross a few weeks ago and he just asked if they were single and was practically dribbling on them.

Apparently the female british football team all have fulltime jobs despite being olympic-level athletes. Don't see them dressing up as richard branson.

AIBU to just be incoherantly angry about all this? and what do I DO?

vodkalorange · 14/03/2012 23:01

of course sportspeople should be paid as professionals - so why do the UK olympic female football team need to have f/t jobs? Perhaps it should have pay grades.

i can't live in cuba, they wouldn't let me in. So I'm stuck with the society I was born into. Might as well form opinions while I have the chance...

troisgarcons · 14/03/2012 23:06

so why do the UK olympic female football team need to have f/t jobs?

That would be becaue they aren't full time professional sports people. Why? because there isnt hte national interest in female sport that there is in male sport (as a whole) however there are an equitable number of female sport and track atheletes, or tennis players and indeed golfers - who comnad 'big money' as professionals.

Your arguemnt is falling short because of sponsorship deals for various sports.

Personally I dont want to watch female football player - I'd rather watch athletics. And I would appear to be in the majority, given sponsorship.

I bet you cant name one England first team squad female footballer.

vodkalorange · 14/03/2012 23:08

but why is there less interest in female sport?

because 'we' value male sport more highly?

OP posts:
troisgarcons · 14/03/2012 23:09

BTW - this is the first time the UK has been able to provide a footabll team of any gender - male or female - because of FIFA regulations ....so dont be doing al that 'Uk olympic female footaballers' - the individual country squads have been round for a hundred plus years. Female footballers are not a new phenomenon

NonnoMum · 14/03/2012 23:13

OR - just marry a man who isn't interested in football - we wouldn't recognise John Terry if he knocked on the door wanting to read the meter.
But I think Peter Crouch is that tall one, yes?
And MR Potato Head is often in the tabloids so I know what he looks like.

troisgarcons · 14/03/2012 23:13

but why is there less interest in female sport?

because 'we' value male sport more highly?

Only individuals can answer that - personally I like athletics, male or female so I watch it.

As this is a sports household and we have an awful lot of shit peculiar and very non mainstream sport on - I cant think of anything more boring than watching a load of women galloping round a football pitch - its bad enough having suffered Chelski tonight in my living room.

But as a rule, any sport, we watch it - from the really obscure Sri Lancan School Boys Under 15s cricket ( I kid ye not) to the World Chess Championships

reads back< I need a life dont I?

vodkalorange · 14/03/2012 23:15

When I married DH he had no interest in football

perhaps it should be grounds for divorce like my developing saggy tits and wrinkles apparently is.

'we grew apart'

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN! How dare I break up their family when I am a giant sponger and poor Dh works so hard to support my feckless ways.

OP posts:
troisgarcons · 14/03/2012 23:19

You lost me there .... Sorry your tits are round your knees ... personally I tuck mine under my armpits Grin

GrahamTribe · 14/03/2012 23:20

trois, you can make the same argument about someone buying Boden instead of George at Asda! Is everyone a "moron" because they chose to spend their money on an item from one outlet rather than another, less expensive one?

troisgarcons · 14/03/2012 23:26

graham would you like to apologise reconfigure your previous post for attributing words to me that I didnt say?

No? well there we go, even when its pointed out.

NonnoMum · 14/03/2012 23:26

vodka - not sure how it works legally, but if you are married to your DH and the reason you gave up your career was to care for the children of that marriage, then you will be entitled to a decent divorce and maintenance settlement.

You are therefor NOT a sponger but an equal partner in raising that family together (as are Colleen Rooney and the likes, but there we go).

Unless of course you are spending all the Child Benefit on cocaine.

So, IF you are as unhappy as you seem, then how about contacting a divorce lawyer?

GrahamTribe · 14/03/2012 23:28

I just offered a comparison, together with a question, troisgarcons. No apology needed AFAIAC.

vodkalorange · 14/03/2012 23:29

Ach I think DH is fine but his attitude to JT shocked me.

He thinks it's all fine and acceptable. And that JT is a wanker BUT "he's good at football" like that's magical and negates everything else.

OP posts:
NonnoMum · 14/03/2012 23:31

Well, who's been calling you a sponger then?

mayorquimby · 14/03/2012 23:37

Grin at John Terry only earning 60k a week. double it and then throw another 20k or so on top.

mayorquimby · 14/03/2012 23:39

also he is an absolute prick but I'd agree in that I don't see what it has to do with his professional life. If Chelsea want to keep paying him and brands want to keep sponsoring him that's their choice. It's not like if he retired there'd suddenly be 10 more nurses a week hired by the NHS

DioneTheDiabolist · 14/03/2012 23:49

I think that YABU. JT's marriage is none of your business (no matter what the tabloids say). His abilities as a footballer are all that matter to the fans.

I am Shock that you let would what (you think) goes on between him and his wife cause such a row between you and your DH.

ComposHat · 14/03/2012 23:50

John Terry is a bell end: agreed.

I couldn't give a fuck about who he or any other sports person male or female shags (so long as it is another consenting adult)

His alleged racism I do care about as it happened on the football pitch and has besmirched a game I love and one that has done more to help integration and multiculturalism than pretty much anything bar popular music.

But what the hell do footballer's wages have to do with NHS/public service cuts? They aren't paid from the public purse and they will be paying top rate of income tax on their vast salaries. The reason they are paid these sums is not a reflection of their moral worth, but because people are prepared to pay vast sums via tickets, Sky subscriptions to watch them, along with merchandise.

If watching Nurses change a colostomy bag became a wildly popular spectator sport and people were prepared to pay vast sums to cable broadcasters to watch live footage or for entrance to hospitals to watch the Nurses change the colostomy bags and pay £50 for a Nurses Uniform with the name of their favourite ward sister on the back, Nurses would be able to command similar salaries.

ColdTruth · 15/03/2012 00:05

Why do people always seem to compare footballers wages to public sector wages? footballers are not paid by the government, the vast majority of footballers are not paid all that much and for those that are paid large sums it is because they generate large sums of money for the clubs they play in and because their skills are unique.

Charbon · 15/03/2012 00:08

Oh I think I'd have trouble in my relationship if DH thought John Terry was worth oxygen.

He's a horrible human being and his talents as a footballer are fading fast.

Whatmeworry · 15/03/2012 00:10

If being a prick disqualified people in major professional roles.....

I also don't feel sorry for the WAGS, I reckon they know what is they are getting into - "Tell me, Mrs JT, what is it about the millionaire JT that attracted you..."

LineRunner · 15/03/2012 00:11

I would point out Sian Massey's crackingly correct offside flag against Man City. For a start. Grin

suburbophobe · 15/03/2012 00:17

"if you like equality so much, fuck off and live in Cuba"

No equality there either, love....

bobbledunk · 15/03/2012 00:20

I thought I argued with dp over the stupidest things, I feel so sane now, thank youSmile

LemonTurd · 15/03/2012 00:20

Whatmeworry - Mrs T has been with JT since they were teenagers and he was an apprentice on about £50 a week.

He is a loathsome human being though Angry
