to think if a school bus has stopped to let children on from the opposite side of the road the traffic should stop and wait until the children are safely on the bus?

because I am finding it bloody infuriating.

My child gets picked up for 'road safety issues' by a council run bus scheme. We live in a location where there is no footpaths and it's also on a very bad bend. The bus driver pull to the centre of the road to try and block the traffic going round it, but still people overtake before my child has even crossed the road. Today some idiot drove up the grass verge where we were standing waiting because he hadn't got time to stop and nearly ran us over Angry

If everyone just waited my child could get on the bus within less than a minute and the bus would be on it's way. As it is, everyone has to wait longer and my childs safety is put at risk because people can't be arsed to wait :(

In America there are apparently laws in place so that people do not overtake school buses when they are stationary, not sure if this rule applioes in other countries but I wish they would do something here.

how do you normally get your kids out and about?

Agincourt · 13/03/2012 13:29

I had posted stop instead of start, I realised afterwards. I am not a morning person.

I don't expect people to wait for 5 minutes no, hence why he is ready every morning because believe it or not I believe a lack of responsibility for own actions can have a negative impact on other peoples lives but if he wasn't ready the bus would have to wait. It's a requirement of the service.

My expectation is that cars do not dangerously overtake the bus on a blind bend when a child is trying to cross the road to get onto it and it will take a matter of seconds really, it doesn't even take a minute!

Having to wait behind a bus (or getting stuck behind a tractor or a milk lorry) is the risk you take when you use country lanes as ratruns.

We live in Worcestershire and there are dozens of roads by us that have no pavement and are absurdly deadly to walk along due to bends and dips I. The road.

School buses should be painted all the same
colour, as in the states, and there should be lots more of them, although in some areas of this country mini buses might b more sensible.

These should take absolute priority over cars.

Unfortunately in this country children as always low priority.

sorry confused, is the bus parking on a bend?

Shutupanddrive · 13/03/2012 16:15

YANBU and I wish people would read the thread properly! There is no-where else for it to stop people! I second the hi-viz jacket suggestion someone else had too

'School buses should be painted all the same colour'
have you any idea how much a bus costs to run? there is no way a bus can be sat doing nothing all the time except 2 journeys every school day!
that's why they are chartered coaches from coach company's or service buses

Agincourt · 13/03/2012 16:23

I am already a constant source of embarrassment to the poor child, imagine his delight on my donning of a high viz :o but yes, it's an idea, thank you.

Those bus drivers are lovely if your child goes to the special school south of your town? I encounter them every morning!

Lovely drivers in our town!

Agincourt · 13/03/2012 16:38

we have two bus drivers, one for the middle/upper school and one for the special school. They are all nice.

I feel I have given too much information away now Blush

"... I think you're lucky the bus stops by your house. Times change. Where I grew up the farm kids had to walk down to the nearest stop on the main road. Unless it was more than two miles (I think) - they got a taxi to the nearest stop. ..."

This was it in the 90s when I was at school and it's still going on now. It was just over a mile to the B road and then another 1/2 mile to the bus stop.
