Need to make decision quick- very slight temperature in the night, resolved with calpol. Pouring with snort now but happy as Larry

I should be going to work. Can't decide

I would. And do. My DD is like a tap, we'd never get anywhere if I kept her off for snot!

larks35 · 13/03/2012 08:13

S'not gonna kill him! Take him to nursery. If you take time off every time he has a snotty nose, you're gonna be taking a lot of time off!

AFingerofFudge · 13/03/2012 08:14

Our playschool's policy is that you can't keep a child off every time they have a runny nose. However, if there's any signs of being unwell with it, then they like you to keep them off.
So tricky one....but I would send them!!

Thatisnotitatall · 13/03/2012 08:15

If its just a cold and the DC is feeling fine YANBU to send to nursery.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 13/03/2012 08:17

Send child to nursery, its only a cold

DinahMoHum · 13/03/2012 08:17

i wouldnt if hes had a temperature with it. Sounds like an infection

bejeezus · 13/03/2012 08:21

Thanks- yes its the temperature which is making me hesitate

And I don't want to go to work really!

Ahh well if you want to use your son's cold as an excuse to skive Wink then go for it, but just cross your fingers he doesn't catch something that really does require you to be off once you've run out of parent days!

larks35 · 13/03/2012 08:28

I don't think a very slight temp is an indication of an infection, especially as it was brought under control with calpol and he hasn't woken up with one. Seriously OP I don't know how long you've been back at work but I wouldn't take the piss with days off to look after your DS if it isn't necessary. IME people notice and tongues wag.

minimisschief · 13/03/2012 08:48

we do. he catches this from nursery every few months so other parents obviously do too.

bejeezus · 13/03/2012 08:52

Work trust me not to take the piss-I either make up the time or take it unpaid

Just dropped her off!

Fair enough bejeezus, I prob sounded a bit judgey, its just that since my line manager found out for me on my return to work that parents of under-7s had the right to x amount of paid leave, he has made sure he takes this amount every year. It hasn't gone unnoticed. It doesn't help that he also has an unusually high amount of self-cert illness, especially on Mondays! I didn't mean to judge you though, even if you did just want a day off, that is up to you!

tryingtoleave · 13/03/2012 09:07

Depends if your dc is sick and miserable or snotty and happy. My dd has been snotty for the last week but has clearly been feeling fine so I sent her. When she looks unhappy and snotty I keep her home.

bejeezus · 13/03/2012 09:38

s'right larks I know Im lucky with work in that respect

BUT Smile I think your line manager is dead right to take off all the parental leave that he is entitled to. Its good that dads do it as well as mums. IME it is only mums that take it. Its unpaid right? (it is for me, I dont take it all though, just keep it for sickness really) But the self-cert Mondays, I suppose tells the tale

bejeezus · 13/03/2012 10:03
