Hi I am looking for some advice/opinions.

After less than 10 months use of a travel system from birth my tires have worn so thin I am unable to use it. my baby is only 19lb so not a heavy baby in my opinion and I am unable to attach bags to my pushchair not that I am strong enough to carry heavy bags anyway!!

I tried to take my pushchair back to the shop where they were very rude about stating its obviously my fault that they've worn bare so soon and is like a bike (i'd expect bike tyres with the exceptions of punctures to last longer than nine 1/2 months) and i've over used it, i do not drive or use it to jog/ go for long walks

my expectations would be for a travel system to by used for up to around 15kg (i think this is about 33lbs) to last beyond nine months use so am wondering if anyone else has experienced bare wheels and if so after how long to try to address how to deal with this situation... i.e are pram wheels short term lasting or is there a possibility I have a fault with my pushchair?? any comments would be greatly appreciated

What pram is it?

thisisyesterday · 12/03/2012 19:36

is it one with air tyres or solid wheels?

can't quite picture what you mean

if solid wheels then yes, i would expect them to last basically the life of the pram, and I would get some advice from trading standards.

although technically it is up to the retailer to make good, in some cases it's actually easier to go to the manufacturer, although you shouldn't have to and they may tell you to go back to the retailer.

I think its a graco symblo. my issue with the company is that I was unsure about buying a pram with air filled tyres so I asked lots of questions before buying and was not told it would not be covered so when ive calmed down im going to complain to head office, bought a stroller today (from a rival shop) so am mobile again at leasr

front wheels are sold and fine back are air filled with an inner similar to a bike wheel and are screwed i can understand wear and tear not being covered but only 9 months?? seems as though more faulty than over use in my opinion

so is the problem with all of the wheels?

SecretNutellaFix · 12/03/2012 20:13

Is it the inner tube that's screwed or the actual outer?

Ponyclubmum · 12/03/2012 20:14

Have you contacted Graco direct? A wheel fell off my old Graco travel system so I emailed them with photos/model number etc and they sent me a replacement free of charge. They were really helpful. Better going directly to them that to the shop I think.

Ponyclubmum · 12/03/2012 20:15

"than to the shop" sorry.

badgerkate · 12/03/2012 20:17

i had a puncture but my dad fixed that for me thankfully but my wheels are so bad the inner is coming out of the hole!!!

really? I might try that then i assumed that as its less than a year old the shop would help. clearly not. they advised me where the exit was.

back two wheels one more so than the other

yes the shop SHOULD deal with it. although quite often that means sending your pushchair back to the manufacturer to replace parts as necessary.

I am always torn between fighting with shops to make them do what they ought to be doing, and just taking the easy way out and contacting the manufacturer!

it's definitely worth contacting Graco direct, but if you want to go via the shop then call Consumer Direct and see if they can give you any pointers.

thisisyesterday · 12/03/2012 20:25

you should feel free to name and shame the shop btw! Grin

badgerkate · 12/03/2012 20:29

if they were helpful then i would have just backed down, accepted their wooly excuse of wheels not being under warranty and complained to graco that they should be if they didnt even last a year but the woman had her back up from the start and when asking for head offices details ended the conversation with 'the exit is over there' this is one I am going to fight. If i spoke to my customers like that (and some days I wish I could) I would be on the next train home with my p45! for a supervisor to speak to a customer like that in front of their subordinates is in my opinion plain rude and setting a bad example am trying to find a funny side to it but struggling

all im saying is it wasn't mothercare, they were lovely when we went in there, gave us a leaflet stating clearly their terms and conditions and I can speak highly enough of the service I recieved so will be dealing with them in future.

i also had problems with staff taking furniture to the car from the same shop and had to return a broken changing table as the chap taking it out dropped it, their choice of courrier left a high chair with an rrp of around 100 in my front garden.... why do i keep going back?

sounds like an independent nursery shop near us. I had one hell of a time dealing with htem about my faulty pushchair.

they eventually went bust, which isn't surprising given the managers charming way with words.

maybe she has opened up a new shop near you? lol

badgerkate · 12/03/2012 20:40

she quoted me her 10 years service. although if she spoke to all her customers like that then keeping your job for 10 years is actually quite impressive!!

it's less than 12 months old I think they should replace it take it back and demand a refund n the full amount as it is not fit for purpose

loubielou31 · 12/03/2012 20:49

Name and Shame.

But no nine months is not good enough. Can you buy a new tyre or get a replacement wheel? mind you the shop you bought it from should have helped you with this though.

I've only owned one pushchair, DD1 in 4.5 and dd2 is 2. It's been used nearly every day! It wouldn't see another baby through I don't think but is still perfectly serviceable.

loubielou31 · 12/03/2012 20:50

Too many thoughs in my post though.

badgerkate · 12/03/2012 21:01

they wanted me to pay 2x £20 for the tyres and 11 each for new inners but as a gesture they would take some out of a pushchair box to save me waiting for a delivery.. so kind!

OP posts:
badgerkate · 12/03/2012 21:03

IF I had been told that if this happened my wheels would not be covered I wouldn't have bought it in the first place as i was dubious of air filled tyres. I think as it was on offer and i was given a slip to take to the till with the assistants number on its now clear she wanted the sale and was willing to tell first time parents whatever it took to get that sale...

lillibet the OP cannot demand a full refund as far as I'm aware.
the shop are well within their rights to say it has to be repaired (although this shouldn't take an unreasonably long time) or replaced.

as she has had 9 months use they could offer a part-refund I believe.

am sure consumer direct can advise though as it's a while since i had to do all this myself!
