one long month of PMT followed by period followed by PMT....you get the drift.

I am sure when I was younger I used to have a least a weeks respite? Aibu to think that it just gets worse the older you get and if so why did no-one warn me Shock

i totally agree i cant believe how grumpy i am now one thing after another, very few days where i actually feel chirpy having to work on it,
i even feel sorry for DH bless him there are just occasions where he cant get it right.
but thankfully he doesnt hold it against me

sunnydelight · 12/03/2012 11:43

YANBU. Getting older sucks!

helloclitty · 12/03/2012 11:44

I was in a really foul mood yesterday and when DH suggested it might be PMT I angrily reacted OF COURSE NOT you IDIOT or something like that only to realise that I have had my few days of respite and am back on the 10 days of PMT! Poor DH!

YANBU... at all.

5Foot5 · 12/03/2012 13:25

Not quite the thread I was expecting when I clicked on it Smile

I am 49 and my menstrual cycle has become so unpredicatble I have almost given up trying to keep track I just make sure I am prepared and go with the flow (as it were)

I had started to go as much as six weeks between periods. Then before Christmas I only went for three weeks. After that it must have been 7 or 8 weeks and the period when it started just seemed to be something or nothing for at least a week and then started properly, so lasted about two weeks in total.

Still at least I don't get PMT (I don't think). But I have always been exceptionally clumsy on the first couple of days.

Birdsgottafly · 12/03/2012 13:34

I am only having two days of spoting. I get tired the day before, no actual PMT, in my fourties.

I had no problems in my 30's.

dotty2 · 12/03/2012 13:46

I am 39 and have started to get PMT when ovulating too. So at least there's some respite, but twice rather than once a month is not good.

lollilou · 12/03/2012 13:53

My PMT has got worse as I have gotten older. Strangely only every other month must have one evil ovary! 5Foot5 you are the first person to mention clumsiness connected to PMT I thought I was the only one to suffer with this.

upahill · 12/03/2012 13:57

I'm nearly 47 and nothing is diffferent from my teens tbh.
Same amount of flow, same number of days, no difference in moods except I get a bit hungrier a day before.

crazynannimama · 12/03/2012 14:02

Welcome to perimenopause ladies. Wait til your joints start to hurt to the point you self-diagnose with fibromyalgia! They REALLY don't put the full story out there about this stage of life! Am 44 and in my second year of HRT, still trying to get it right! Will have got through the whole damn menopause before we've got the dosage right!

Oh, and totally agree about the clumsiness, but mine manifests in not being able to reverse park when I've got my period! Weird.

And the uncontrollable crying .....

Just lock me up now!

Birdsgottafly · 12/03/2012 14:05

I'd forgot the crying!

I have never been sentimental but cry at all sorts of stupid things, now.

JaneMare · 12/03/2012 14:07

WHAT FUCKING TEMPER AND CRYING Angry

No idea Gasblue
I used to get horrific breast tenderness but post children I just get horrific PMT.

Alos agree about the clumsiness and joint pain.

IShallWearMidnight · 12/03/2012 14:31

yy to clumsiness and viciously stroppy moods and crying at the least thing. Am only 41, although does that mean the menopause might be earlier and therefore periods are over and doen with sooner? Might go for that Wink.

ragged · 12/03/2012 14:32

No, not yet anyway (mid 40s). Terrible pmt as a teen & terrible cramps in my 20s. Almost none of that as I get older, Been pretty manageable since early 30s & having DC.

My memory is pants, though, I think I'm a candidate for early Alzheimers. :(

pjmama · 12/03/2012 14:52

Oh thank goodness it's not just me!!

crazynannimama · 12/03/2012 15:21

Ragged - the memory thing is all part of it too :( I swear I can't count to 20 without losing track. Took me ages to remember the word 'lamp-post' the other day! It's a very odd feeling.

ISWM - my hot flushes started at 41 .... then periods got erratic, then dryness ... then joint pain ... The next health professional that tells me I'm young to be starting all this will be taking their life in their hands!

Check with your mother what age she was when menopause started. There is supposed to be a connection between that and the age you will be when you start it too.

5Foot5 · 12/03/2012 16:54

"Oh, and totally agree about the clumsiness, but mine manifests in not being able to reverse park when I've got my period! "

Sorry but I have to admit I have always been utterly rubbish at this at any age and any time of the month!

Gumby · 12/03/2012 16:56

I went on to the mini pill, cezarette

no periods & no pmt

has changed my life!

carernotasaint · 12/03/2012 17:46

Im 38 and im finding that when im on my period now i sleep for fucking England. Up to 11 hours sometimes and then im still tired.

Pixel · 12/03/2012 19:48

I've always had the clumsiness thing. I also get toothache for a couple of days before I come on which isn't very nice but at least gives me fair warning as I'm not very regular!
These joint pains though, are they like sudden stabbing pains or something else? It's just that I've been having pains in my elbows and I'm wondering if this could be the cause (I'm 45 btw).

BsshBossh · 12/03/2012 21:12

No PMT yet (have never had it). But nowadays my actual period lasts the usual few days but doesn't properly clear itself out (IYSWIM, sorry if TMI) for a week or more afterwards so I still have to wear bloody pads. Have also become more clumsy over the last year. Breasts more tender. I'm 41.

wheredidiputit · 13/03/2012 20:23

Yep. I'm 42 and feel I have PMT building to the point where I get on my own nerves let alone anyone else. Then fine when period arrives, for it all buiod up again.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 13/03/2012 20:40

Me too. 41, and loooong PMT build-up, then spotting for a few days, then very heavy/not so heavy depending on which month/ovary it is (I know I have fibroids on one).
