To get a food delivery on holiday?

Is there any reason why I could not / should not do this?
Is it unreasonable?

Going on holiday very soon, only Haven not too far from home.
It is self catering so will be cooking and eating in the caravan.

As we do not drive we will be travelling there and back via train so with 3 children (one newborn and one disabled) we will have our hands full just taking our luggage never mind our food shopping for the week.

Last time we went we bought from the on-site supermarket but it was so expensive we would like to avoid this as on a tight budget this year.

The local main supermarket is in the next town from the holiday site and too far to walk, get bus, taxi etc. easily.

As we know our carvan number I am thinking of ordering an asda food shop online and getting it delivered to the caravan. I have put the postcode into the asda website and it says they will deliver in that area so why not?

OH thinks this is BU and that we will not be allowed to do this, but surely it's no different to taing your own shopping which is what loads of people do.

So WIBU to order a food delivery to the caravan for the day we arrive?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Have a good holiday!

Ineedalife · 11/03/2012 17:04

No, its fine. I have done it on holiday and we have done it at guide camp several times.

We had 30 crates of stuff at the last campGrin.

Go for it!!

shineypenny · 11/03/2012 17:04

I did this last year with Tesco. Not Haven though; a private site.
Tesco were totally used to it and it wsn't a problem at all - you can set up several delivery addresses on an account, just remember to change it back when you get home :)

I would phone the Haven site to check that they are happy first though.

WorraLiberty · 11/03/2012 17:06

Of course YANBU, why would you be?

The only thing I would double check is that they do actually know it's a caravan site.

I know you put the postcode in but that would also bring up houses in the same street (if there are any)

Some caravan sites don't allow cars to park near the caravans and some do...so that could possibly cause a problem.

I'd google Asda's number and phone to check.

wimblehorse · 11/03/2012 17:06

YANBU. I have done this many times when s/c. Saves time, money, faffing around, luggage space in car...
As long as the address comes up on supermarket website, should be fine.

leddeeburdee · 11/03/2012 17:07

I've done it several times at different holiday cottages. It didn't cause any problems.

PattiMayor · 11/03/2012 17:07

I always organise a food delivery when I go on a UK s/c holiday :)

ScruffyTerrier · 11/03/2012 17:07

Sounds a great idea. No one likes having to go shopping as soon as you arrive at your holiday destination! As others said, call and check that Asda is okay with it and that the campsite is accessible.
Have a nice time Smile

rogersmellyonthetelly · 11/03/2012 17:08

Great idea. I go to a big horse show every year with the horse and we only have the horsebox and no car so we can't nip to the shops. I always have an asda delivery after a couple of days to the showground as the fridge is small and we run out of food! We also have Chinese delivered :0)

CreepyWeeBrackets · 11/03/2012 17:08

YANBU - lots of people do it. I thought your OP was about ordering in Chinese one night. Which is also perfectly acceptance, well, compulsory in our case.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 11/03/2012 17:10

Bloody genius idea!

madasa · 11/03/2012 17:17

We did it last year when we stayed in a cottage.....twas brilliant!

Kennyp · 11/03/2012 17:40

A friend of mine did it for her honeymoon in cornwall. No problems at all. Some remote cottage somewhere.

Mrsjay · 11/03/2012 17:43

I used to have a static caravan just before and just at the start of the online shop delivery , anyway Load of people got iceland delivered I know thats not online , and then before we left had tescos online delivered you will need to make sure they know your caravan number though but why not saves trrying to find a shop,

AfterMeYouComeFirst · 11/03/2012 17:43

Not U at all! It's a great idea.

ElaineBenes · 11/03/2012 17:44

We always do it on self-catering UK holidays - who wants to waste time shopping for food when you're on holiday?! YADNBU.

Mrsjay · 11/03/2012 17:44

Oh you know your caravan number i misread yes just do it ,

SleepingWithGhosts · 11/03/2012 19:14

Thats great, thanks.

Did not realise so many people do this!

Will phone Haven and check they don't mind just in case though.

OH thought Haven might say no as they wont make money on their own supermarket then but will see what they say.

Parking is definately fine, the caravan we have booked has parking behind it which will be empty as we dont have a car.

YANBU!

Gosh imagine how much hassle it is going to save you not to mention the money!

NotAnOstrich · 11/03/2012 19:58

YANBU, as long as Haven lets you it will be great! Maybe phone Asda and check that the delivery driver will phone you in case they can't spot your caravan? The Tesco delivery driver wasn't sure which the access road was for our holiday cottage last year, but he called my mobile + we could direct him.
We chose to have our delivery on the day AFTER arriving just in case we were delayed on the journey/ too tired to settle children in new beds and put shopping away. Have a fun holiday!
