Lumping everyone who finds someone falling off their roof on YBF funny in with your abusive fuckwitted arsehole of an ex is a bit of a generalization isn't it threeleftfeet?

I wouldn't find someone funny falling over in front of me, and some of the really painful looking vids make me wince rather than laugh, but there's an element of consent when you're watchin YBF which 'allows' you to laugh because you've got the persons permission (or in childrens case their parents).

troisgarcons · 10/03/2012 21:47

Harry Hill a knob of the highest order - YABU to watch anything with him fronting it.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 10/03/2012 21:52

People falling over and hurting themselves is funny, though. Or it is if you are my children (they are 7 and 5). They laugh in real life, too.

Really, if you want to be cross at anyone, be cross at the child's parents, who presumably sold the video of their little darling falling off a scooter for £250.

Having said that, there was a "lets laugh at fat people" section this evening which was taking it just a bit far.....

fedupofnamechanging · 10/03/2012 21:52

I think it's horrible. I cannot get my head around a parent who sees their child is hurt or upset and thinks a)'I'll carry on and film it', instead of preventing their child from getting hurt/comforting their child and b)that it it is funny.

Never mind the £25, the only thing going to those parents should be a visit from social services.

"Lumping everyone who finds someone falling off their roof on YBF funny in with your abusive fuckwitted arsehole of an ex is a bit of a generalization isn't it threeleftfeet?"

Probably Grin

I understand the funniness when the situation is ridiculous, or funny in some way other than just the pain.

But there are clips on YBF where the punchline is simply that it must have really hurt.
I just don't understand why / how anyone can find that funny and until I do, I'm afraid I will lump everyone who finds other people's misfortune funny into a category of "not a very nice person"!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/03/2012 22:33

I watch and laugh often. The only time I've ever been Shock was when this bloke was fixing his roof. He had tied a rope round his waist, over the ridge line, round the chimney, down the other side and lashed it to the towbar of his car. Predictably, someone drove the car away! It was definitely an ouch moment!

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 10/03/2012 22:56

Has anyone ever sent a video in, how long does it take to get the money? I have one that I have been thinking about sending in, nobody getting hurt just DD as a baby frightening the cat, the cat's reaction to suddenly mobile baby is priceless, and £250 would be a nice little pot of spending money for our holidays.

minimisschief · 10/03/2012 23:05

some of you have some really messed up thought processes. why does it make a difference if they are adults or children. you either think that its awful or not. the size of the human shouldnt matter.

And to answer the question of why its funny. well it is funny because the scenarios that play out are amusing and every sensible person who watches it knows that no one in the program has been seriously hurt. The same way people find slasher films entertaining because you know people arent really dying.

i am sure if people who laugh at these saw someone fall off a curb into a moving bus we would not laugh... probably

Walkinginwonderland · 10/03/2012 23:06

It's mean and nasty.

AgentZigzag · 10/03/2012 23:09

What about if they don't get hurt threeleftfeet?

What about if they're dangling a baby over their head and the baby's sick over their face?

Would that make me a horrible person to think 'You must have known that was a possible outcome. I knew that was a possible outcome and so didn't dangle my baby over my face. I laugh at your idiocy'?

Mrsjay · 10/03/2012 23:11

Love YBF faling babies falling cats whats not to like Grin some people like infantile humour some dont , the clip thats is my fav is the baby farting with baby powder on ,

AgentZigzag · 10/03/2012 23:20
is the most gorgeous baby in the history of the world (apart from my babies) Smile
AgentZigzag · 10/03/2012 23:23

You're right Mrsj,

I bet there's at least a couple of posters who think he should have removed himself to the bathroom before letting rip Grin

Mrsjay · 10/03/2012 23:26

or at least covered up his/her bottom , Grin

Mrsjay · 10/03/2012 23:28

that is adorable laughing babies are the best medicine ,
I like YBF as i said and the people who send the clips find them funny , although i do wince , and some of the eejits deserve it with the stunts they try and do ,

shinyblackgrape · 10/03/2012 23:35

Yanbu - I hate it. Particularly as half the time people seem to be setting things up so their toddler falls over Hmm. I imagine it's watched and enjoyed by the same people whose ideas of "entertainment" is watching children dying of cancer or requiring a liver transplant on some horrid fly on the wall children's hospital documentary

TheFoosa · 10/03/2012 23:38

I do love the descriptions from Harry Hill

peeriebear · 10/03/2012 23:39

They showed the top 100 animal clips a few weeks ago- the DDs and I were in heaven. Generally on the show 90% of the clips are funny, 10% are cringe inducing either because they look painful or painfully set-up.

AgentZigzag · 10/03/2012 23:41

'same people whose ideas of "entertainment" is watching children dying of cancer or requiring a liver transplant'

Maybe some parents get support and understanding for what they're going through with their own children from those kind of 'horrid' childrens hospital documentaries shineyblackgrape?

If you think anyone's sat there with a smile on their face at the suffering of small children I would feel for you thinking the world's so shit.

To liken the reason and reactions you'd watch a program about children with serious debilitating illnesses to YBF is ridiculous.

Mrsjay · 10/03/2012 23:46

seriously people laughing at somebody falling of a chair or being knocked over by a big brother is the same as watching cancer documentaries , Get a grip of yourself stop being so dramamtic maybe you should watch more YBF cheer you up a bit ,

TuesdayNightClub · 10/03/2012 23:47

It's hilarious! Maybe I'm not watching closely enough or something but very few of the clips I've seen on it have actually looked like they would result in really bad pain I am usually really wary about watching videos on YouTube etc because I can't predict what horrible thing I might see, I don't ybf falls into the same category at all.

shinyblackgrape · 10/03/2012 23:47

I think both types of programmes are horrible and exploitative. I cannot understand why anybody would want to watch a child (or an adult) suffering or hurting themselves and I don't think the two can be distinguished

TuesdayNightClub · 10/03/2012 23:47

Gah punctuation fail on my iPhone!

Pixieonthemoor · 10/03/2012 23:50

There was once a clip of a dad doing a nappy change. He accidentally tipped too much baby powder onto the LO so he bent down to blow away the excess. At this point the baby did an enormous fart enveloping the man in cloud of fart and baby powder. I nearly DIED with laughter.

Boomerwang · 10/03/2012 23:54

I don't laugh at people falling off stages or being knocked over because I've seen so many now, you know what's coming.

But I adore the ones that can't be set up, such as animals and babies doing silly things.

I've often wondered how people can laugh at someone who clearly hurt themselves, whether they did it by doing something stupid or not.
