Back story DSis is sponsoring a child through a charity and is corresponding with him, it is all very positive and as she doesn't have a family of her own I think she gains a lot from the feeling of helping and having contact.

I received an email from her today asking for a photo of me as she is sending him pictures of her family. I am not sure that I particularly fancy doing this and am quite prepared to be told IABU. Something doesn't sit right but I don't want to seem to be callas or silly.

I don't know anything about the process of sponsorship. I am on FB so I suppose people can see my photos this way - is this any different? just wondered what others thought

I think it would be fine. Your sister sounds lovely!

Proudnscary · 09/03/2012 11:44

Wow you are paranoid

onemoreminute · 09/03/2012 11:44

I don't see any problem with it.

Flisspaps · 09/03/2012 11:47

I don't see a problem with it. What exactly is this child going to do with your photo that makes you feel Confused

You do know that photos of you on Facebook can be used by others (including being sold by Facebook) without your consent, don't you?

fallenpetal · 09/03/2012 11:47

I dont see an issue with it per say but I can understand your reluctance - Im one of those that always asks permission before posting FB pic because I know a few people who are as uncomfortable with the idea of strangers and pic as you seem to be.

So YANBU but as proudnscary says maybe a bit paranoid!

ByTheWay1 · 09/03/2012 11:48

If you don't want to - just say no.... I don't like having photos taken, let alone given to people I don't know.

mojitomania · 09/03/2012 11:50

Up to you but I think you're a bit paranoid too. Do you hate piccys of yourself?

Proudnscary · 09/03/2012 11:51

Oh I understand about Facebook - drives me crazy when people put pix of me or even worse my dc on there. That's different. Because all your friends and colleagues can see you dancing like a drunken loon going about your private business. It's so annoying that people do that.
But this is to one child in another country (I presume).

Thanks for your feedback. Smile

what is this worst thing that could happen ?

Someone you don't know see's your photo

what is the best thing that could happen .?

....you show openly you trust your sister and her decisions

if something doesn't sit right at least have that conversation with your sister

We sponsor a child, and she loves to have photos of us/what we're doing etc. because it makes her feel she knows us better. She has grown from an adorable (but sad) little girl into a very responsible and happy young lady.

Someone who visited the home she lives in once said that if the sponsors could see how treasured each little letter etc. is by the children there they would be very touched.

Another person went to see their lad just before he left the home and the lad produced every letter that he had written. 10 years worth of letters, and he knew most of them off by heart and obviously read them all frequently.

What do you think is going to go wrong with her sending a photo?

Heyyyho · 09/03/2012 12:16

Thank you De that is a helpful perspective. Like I said I dont really know why I felt strange about it I just did. I don't anymore.
