When Whitney Houston died my facebook news feed was full of status's about her.... Yet 6 british soldiers have died fighting for our country and there is 2 maybe 3 status's about it! If u support our british soldiers put this as your status to show your respect to those who have lost their life RIP to all our fallen soldiers xx

you are right our boys who fought and lost their lives for our country will be forgotten , Whitney Houston was tragic, and had a wasted life, but Our boys deserve better. They did not waste their lives it was wasted for them.RIP to all our boys and may this Country never forget.

What has WH got to do with this?!

A friend of a friend recently had

"Love cleaning [DD]'s room and seeing what she has been up to. I am so blessed to have these 4 little prople to clean up after [heart symbol]."

I also had to read three times before I realised chew hadn't actually been to school with her donkey. I was very disappointed.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there, BelleEnd. It was the judging the OP was complaining about, not the mourning. The whole point is that this annoying status is telling people who they ought to be sadder about.

Getting off Facebook (evil though it is) seems a rather extreme response to being irritated by some statuses - like never travelling on a train again because you saw somebody in the carriage chewing gum with their mouth open (more than once!). What's wrong with a little moan anyway?

BagoHolly, i have someone on my fb that posts anoying things like 'why is life so hard' , 'can't wait till people find out the truth' and 'why is my life so shit?', its really starting to piss my off and i'm tempted to un-friend her. Also hate it when people write things like 'i'm so excited' or 'at last i have some good news' (without telling you what they are excited about or what news) Hmm.

Also hate when people go into details about there kids throwing up (we don't need to know all the details).

Mrsjay · 09/03/2012 09:40

GavisconJunkie · 09/03/2012 09:43

I'm extremely conservative about who I friend on FB - I'm only in double figures still. Anyone who called me "hun" would be defriended immediately - I just can't stand that term, it makes me want to do violent things. There's something lazy about it that I quite can't put my finger on...

I very recently, in a haze of misjudgment, friended an old school friend who always loved me when she was on the up, and very much disliked it when she wasn't the centre of attention. She was going through my photos and in a very patronising way, asked how long I'd been on FB and if I knew how to use it. I put up with that vein of conversation until I'd had enough and basically told her I worked in digital marketing/social media, had spent the last ten years tracking social platform trends, had a very good idea of the manipulation and knew exactly what was going on online with regards to privacy, security, copyright/intellectual property and tracking, and it had made me very conservative with my own personal social media activity. So there!

Agree about the value judgments based on who has died, but then again I don't really get why these lads have been more in the news than (seemingly) any other fallen soldier? It's not that I don't think that soldiers deserve respect for what they've done and sacrificed. But I can't really understand people posting updates about people they have never met, talking about how sad it is - yes, it is sad but it's also war, this is what happens. I always get the sense that there's a feeling of outrage that British soldiers have been killed. To clarify - I'm not saying it's not sad, and soldiers do a tremendous job and make the ultimate sacrifice - my gripe is in no way with them. It's with the public - I just always get the feeling the general public is outraged and astonished it happens. And I really don't understand that. What do people think happens in war?

Mrsjay · 09/03/2012 10:26

betty my husband said that last night when it was on the news , I think they are being Highlighted because the vehicle they were in is supposed to be explosion proof and i guess it wasnt and they all died together , if you see what i mean ,

Kewcumber · 09/03/2012 10:26

so did OP go to school with her donkey or not? Confused

I have started deleting people whose posts make my brain freeze. Its very satisfying.
