grief and heartbreak

Am suffering because of two dreadful losses; won't go into details but tried to get some advice through MN. Typed in "grief" and Lifescripts came up with the most awful gyrating advert on the left-hand side with the slogan "How Celebrities Get Their Slim Tummies."

How on earth is this going to help people who are in pain through bereavements? AIBU to think that MN is just interested in revenue to be gained through advertising?

This advert, and others, on the "grief" thread is very tacky, IMHO!

I'm so sorry. I'm afraid I have no direct advice, and I don't know what you mean by 'Lifescripts'. But I saw your post, and didn't want to leave it unanswered.

I'm very sorry to hear that you have suffered two dreadful losses.

In my experience, Mumsnet is a very supportive community, and somewhere you can always find someone who has been/is going through the same difficulties as you are.

Please ignore the adverts on the site and try posting about your concerns here.

I wish you all the best.

Tx PF - Simply typed in "grief" and the horrible and offensive advert appeared on the left-hand side.

I agree with your comments about MN; have always received great support for former problems. Visited the site which you recommended - thank you - but found it a bit too upsetting! So many people with so many extremely sad losses - may they all find peace eventually! RIP to all the departed and sending sympathy to all of those who are mourning.

tropamo, sorry for your loss.

Post in site issues. State exactly what you did and the result.

I'm not sure how much of the advertising is context based or how much control MN have over the content from ad agencies, but I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

BTW, you can avoid a lot of advertising on the internet by using Firefox and installing the Adblock and Flashblock plugins.

I may have been too hasty in blaming MN! Clicked on something recently which came up when checking emails; this may have led to the unwanted ad on "grief."

Thank you PF and TP for your posts.

There is a bereavement topic with lots of fantastic people who can offer support, not sure about the advertising as I've never noticed

Hope you are ok x

Sorty, have just seen that you find bereavement topic too upsetting. I guess it would depend if you want advice, just to talk as to where else we could advise you to post x

Moominsarescary · 10/03/2012 01:22

Sorry not sorty, blinking phone

Get firefox with adblockplus, tropamo. I see no adverts whatsoever with this. If I was forced to see flashing gurning adverts I would just give up the internet, because it wouldn't be worth it.

BlackLetterDay, Will, what you suggest, affect AVG?
