to have quit my job tonight?

Its taken me a lot of guts and indecision, as I generally have zero faith in myself and my decisions.

Basically, I came up with a business idea, fished around a bit and discovered I have a unique selling point and niche market. Used a little of my savings(and a few sick days) to try it out, done some market research with my prototype - all favourable.

I'm 40 this year, job markets awful, and due to circumstances I'm always going to have a job that I dont really like and am not satisified in.

So today I decided, it's now or never, take the plunge, stop putting it off or tomorrow will never get here and I'll end up doing the same monotonous boring job that I hate when I'm 60.

Fitting it in around my work while I set up wasn't feasible at all so I've quit. I've used last months pay to set myself up and as of Monday I will be my own boss.

Making that phonecall was so nerve-wracking, but it's done now so I HAVE to do this. I'm scared, worried I've done the wrong thing, excited and happy all at the same time

Fair enough Grin

But I wish you all the best! Have you had some support in setting up on your own?

Libraries often run Business Enterprise clubs and have HMRC tax advice clinics for new business starters.

onwards and upwards!

Well done! I've quit jobs on a whim in the past and never regretted it. Once, I hung on in there because I felt I was "too impulsive" or some shit and that I should, as a grown up, soldier on. HUGE mistake.

Hope it all goes really well for you Thanks

Good luck.

Fantastic!

I quit my job when I was 40 to do something different. Best mid-life crisis I ever suffered Grin.

I hope you don't treat the suppliers / people you deal with in your new venture in the same way with regards to contracts. Not the most professional behaviour to flout a contractual arrangement such as the terms and conditions of employment. But maybe I'm old fashioned.

Having said all that, I admire you for taking the bit between your teeth in a risky market and I hope it works out really well for you.

Good luck. I'm currently working towards doing the same so you have been an inspiration to me!!

Best wishes with your new venture. I admire your courage. I do think you should have worked your notice though.

My mum used to say "Fortune knocks but once on your door, if you fail to answer he may send along his daughter Miss Fortune." So well done you on opening the door, I really hope your project is a great success :)

Have lots of faith in yourself. Of course you can do this!
