To think cupcakes are just fairy cakes

Someone please explain to me why fairy cakes with icing on have become a mark of both domestic goddessry and that you live in a very naice area because people are willing to pay £2 or more for them.
In fact, is there anyone on MN daft enough to have coughed up a huge amount for one?

Why have cupcakes become the baking obession of modern women? Why not pasties or pies? At least they have some protien in them.

valiumredhead · 10/03/2012 13:45

Because they are easy to make!

I make a mean pasty.

but this thread means I must make cake. Or possibly biscuits. I am in a quandary.

ThisIsNotMyLife · 10/03/2012 13:47

So are pies. They're proper food too.

valiumredhead · 10/03/2012 13:48

Proper? As opposed to pretend? Grin

As in have some useful nutritional value and can be used to feed a family. I hate the whole cupcake thing. Yes they're a bit of fun, but pretending that you're some kind of domestic goddess because you over-iced some fairy cakes while dinner is a waitrose ready-meal......

I see red over this. Can you tell? Angry Grin

valiumredhead · 10/03/2012 13:53

I don't know anyone who actually does that!

Snowsister · 10/03/2012 14:07

Cupcakes are a fancy smancy bunting and Cath kidson shabby chic lifestyle.

Fairy cakes are vintage.

Rather have a chocolate hobnob personally.

DontWorryBeHappy1994 · 10/03/2012 14:48

They are called buns!

Goawaybob · 10/03/2012 15:04

snowsister im with you on that one - althouh i prefer tesco's own rich tea.

Fucking loathe cathkidstone everywhere

Shabby chic lifestyle - oh god, dont get me started.

This reminds me of a rocking horse we bouht for dd from a bootfair, it was pretty shabby, but she had it for a bit - then i put it in the garden and it got wet and sopping and was growing some dodgy looking green stuff, it wasnt cleanable.. So i sent it too the tip - the next week that very horse was proudly in display in the window of the local shabby chic lifestyle junk shop where they also sell "traditional apple boxes" for £15 pounds each. Hmm If people are stupid enough to buy this crap,,,,,,,,,,,,,they are stupid enough to buy cup cakes for £2 a punt.

Ultra sleek, modern clean lines have never looked so attractive. Thing is, my house is shabby, just shabby and no chic Blush

OTheHugeManatee · 10/03/2012 15:06

Cupcakes = 'the blacked out vauxhall corsas of the cake world'.

Quote of the week please Grin

Honeydragon · 10/03/2012 16:10
