Dangerous dogs

I think that the owners of dogs who attack / bite people should be prosecuted as if they themselves had attacked the person. Caveat: by attack / bite, I mean with the obvious intention to cause harm, not that thing dogs do when they put their mouths around someone's arm in play but do not bite down.

I love dogs and find it sad that so many people seem to be frightened of them. In particular Staffies, who are usually very nice dogs. I think this is made much worse by irresponsible dog owners who don't make sure that their dogs are friends to the world.

With the dog fighting, these people have TRAINED their dog to do this, IT IS NOT a natural fighting instinct! Its like training to collect a ball and bring it back, or to heel when walking on the lead, just on a very evil nasty and cruel way. Any dog if provoked for long enough can be trained to do this. I used to know a lad who took a dog off someone who was using it for dog fighting. They used to beat her with a stick and pour kettle water over her head, it was horrendous. She was too petrified to have a kettle on, but she turned out soft as anything, given the right love and attention. I am sorry 99percent of the time it is the owner and the LAW NEEDS TO PUNISH THEM MORE! I have seen programmes where the police that are taking these so called "dangerous" dogs away from an owner and the owner and officer are both in tears, because all they would do is lick you to death! Hardly god damned fucking dangerous IMO!

Hi all, am back. I suppose my point is that if a dangerous dog was treated in the same way as a knife, people would know that they had some / more protection under the law. Where I live I see whole families crossing the road to avoid youngish men with (usually) Staffies. It's a shame because they are usually nice dogs. In fact I sometimes ask the owners if I can stroke them

i think we generally agree that the owner of a dog who is "dangerous" is mostly responsible for the dogs temperament by teaching and abusing it to act in this manner, hope you undersatand what i mean

the cases of abuse regarding these dogs is totally shocking and disgusting, what can be done i dont know but i do know that its rising and breaks my heart for these poor animals

on a par with badger baiting there's truly some terrible people in the world,im going of tangent but really upsets me

mylittlemiracle, yes i know what your saying a home is reported for having a "dangerous dog" police take dog away to see if it fits the breed, owner distraught and has never bitten etc people, that does go on

did see a programme where this happened, next door didnt feel safe letting their daughter into the garden, must point out dog had never bitten or threatened, anyway the dogs were not on the dangerous list but the police did say they needed better fencing (dogs were outside alot)

basically dog owners was happy to build a more robust run etc and made a dam fine job,so everybody was happy, but he was a RESPONSIBLE owner its not that type of owner people worry about

he loved them dogs and done everything to make sure he kept them

I grew up with a staffie,(in the 70's and 80's) he would try to fight any and every dog he ever saw, sometimes he succeeded. In no way at all was my dad an irresponsible owner but he'd have been condemned nowadays as being a brutal thug Smile considering the dog he had and the fact he was big stocky man!!
I own a labrador myself - my DH won't let me have a staffie Sad and he's an idiot, still a puppy - not aggressive but becuase he's so big and boisterous, people are scared stiff of him!! Which of course is fantastic when I get cold callers knocking on my door Grin
